Welcome to the club....!

Had my Desire since May and still can't put it down, most addictive phone I've ever had and thats not talking about calls and texting......

Enjoy

Agreed, one awesome handset you've got.

Just got mine on the 1st of January, I cannot put it down for more than an hour! :D

Don't even think about rooting until you know the full workings of your phone. For most rooting isn't needed

If, after a week or so of use, you feel things can be improved then read up a LOT on rooting and then if you still feel it's what you want to do make sure you have the current RUU for your phone in case things go wrong and go ahead with it

I agree about with Eddy. What i would recommend after 1 week though is trying out Launcher Pro or one of the other home screen replacement apps. For me, that is the true power of Android and it's incredible how easy it is to customise pretty much anything on your phone!

Just wait til you guys start rooting!!

:D No chance of me doing that for a while!!!

Going to learn the phone inside out before I even consider it!!!

2 hours?! Careful, you'll need a recharge soon.

And did I hear the word "rooting"?! Rooting is only necessary if you feel the need to:

1) Stop having fun with your phone
2) Make your phone look identical to a "cool" one you saw in the thread with >9000 posts because you value individuality
3) Want to negate the benefits of having Sense.

Enjoy

Rooting is only necessary if you feel the need to:

- use titanium backup
- change your system fonts using Font Changer (easy, painless, awesome)
- take screenshots using ShootMe
- run SetCPU (for performance or battery-stretching)

I don't really understand your point #3 though. How are root access and Sense related?

Flashing ROMS I guess.

Anyway, I was kind of joking. I've pointed out before that it's something that I personally have no desire (da dum tsh) to do. Of course I can see that some people find it immensely fun, useful and interesting.

I'm desperate to try out a Nexus S just to see the "Vanilla Gingerbread" experience but they don't have them out here yet. I guess rooting may bring me closer to that goal but hey, I'll live.

Of course not, but vanilla gingerbread is available for rooted desires. I'm running it myself.

So if you do certain things, you wont be closer. You will be there.

its not too difficult, just a daunting task first time round due to fear and lack of understanding.
even as a rooting veteran on other devices i still lost a bucket of sweat and my backside nearly fell out when i first rooted this device.

the actaul proceedure itself is very simple and automated
the hardest part is the windows drivers

If you do decide to.go for it, please read the faq in my Sig as many times as you can stand to

I've had mine for months and only recently discovered that if you open "all apps" and long press on one, it gets pulled through to your screen!
