Root I've C*c*ed things up. Need HELP!

Hi People,

I have been running a rooted HTC desire for ages using the Unlockr unroot and then using Leedroids ROMS. The current one i have is 3.0.82. I dropped my phone and the internal speaker isn't working so going to send back for a warranty repair job.

I've tried to unroot this phone using the many tools around such as the RUU downloads etc but get various errors and it wont do it. I think its due to the 0.93 bootloader, but i did install the S-OFF mod where it boots with a joker symbol....

Here is what my phone is running by pressing power down + power.

This is what happens when I click the software / about setting when the phone is turned on.

Android version: 2.3.3
Baseband Version: 32.48.00.32U_5.11.05.14
Kernel Version: 2,6,35,10.g308ba26

Build number: 3.06.707.0.CL41007 test-keys

Software NUmber: LeeDroid 3.0.8.2
Browser version: Webkit/533.1

I have a spare microSD card so can have a go at allsorts.

Just need to send back for repair as the flash is going off all the time and now speaker isn't working properly.

So the errors i'm getting is usb connection errors and so on.

Anyone out there know how to get me out of this mess and unroot properly? Reading the forums I think i might need to downgrade HBOOT first then try unrooting afterwards? I dont want to totally brick it.

I'm running Linux Mint and Virtualbox 4.1 for any windows program running.

Thanks in advance for your help people....

Kind Regards, Ben :)

What was your original software version? When did you s-off?

You can only RUU from fastboot as you have 2.3.3

I did the S-Off from when i had the Leedroid ROM installed version 3.082. My original one that came with the phone was H3gHutch 1.22. Is it at the point of no return? It works fine how it currently is except the random speaker problem but really need to get it fixed under warranty as its got another 12 months remainder left.

Thanks for the quick response.

I can put up more pics / web cam of whats going on if required./

Get you know so if i download one of the RUU's, extract the zip file from it. Rename that to the required name.zip and then boot in Hboot it will try and update this and do the same as using unrevoked?

Sorry i'm not a Android expert! So sorry if it doesnt make any sense.

I need to work out if the device was branded or not (carrier ID on it, splash screens blah blah) then we can try to find the correct RUU. Who did you buy it off? Could you ask them?

Thanks Fellas.

I got it from the three store in UK. Should be a straight forward rename the file to the right name.zip then boot into fastboot. Do i need to do anything special to the SDcard so i dont get any of those CID related errors? My current card is a goldcard but might be best off setting a new one up for this reflash?

Were early 3 phones unbranded? This is PVT1 so its quite old...

If you use the 3 RUU and get a CID error, its because your phone was unbranded. If it is branded, no gold card required. If its not, you would need to use an unbranded 2.29.405.5

Thanks I'm going to give it a go tonight and will let you know how i get one.

Really appreciate the help / tips.

Cheers

The others have told you what you need to do, but just for completeness:

It's only the new alpharev hboots which need the downgrader, and as I remember those report the hboot version number as 6.93. So if yours is 0.93 it's an old one, which will be replaced by the RUU.

Check afterwards that it no longer says alpharev, but I think you are OK.
