I've just sent an e-mail to HTC

Well I must be the only one that finds the battery ok, its lasts just as long as my iphone did. The battery will last around 2 days if I don’t hammed the phone and about 24hrs if I do, I NEVER run out of battery in a few hours as your making out. The music player is awesome and there nothing wrong with the quality and volume it’s well loud enough just as good as the iphone and lastly the camera takes amazing pictures, think you may have a duff phone ;)

I could never get more than 24 hours out of my battery over the past 2 months or so. But for some unknown reason my phone has now been on 48 hours since charged, and its still at 50%! I havent changed anything apart from putting it into airplane mode at night, but have been doing that for several weeks now, and the battery has only improved massively this week?

At first i thought it was a bug with the latest update and the battery wasnt being reported right, but its still going 48 hours after charge with 50% remaining and been getting normal use.

well ytrebil i agree with EVERYTHING you've said about this phone and with only one day left on my 14day return policy i'm sat clueless as what to do as theres nothing else on the market that jumps out at me!!! 24month contract is what i've signed up for which is along time when your not 100% happy. i've spent 8 days searching forums for answers sent htc an email about the low volume which surprisingly i got a reply. they simply stated use a louder ringtone derrrrrr like i hadn't tried that lol. They said to keep an eye out on there site for a possible software update. The best i can find and suggest to you is a free app called zedge it gives u free wallpapers and ringtones again for free. i was amazed at exactly what the speaker on the handset can do as if you type loudest ringtone into the search panel on zedge (although there nothing special) there were a few LOUD tones. So it has to be in my opinion a restriction on htc's part regarding volume and fixable. i had to take the phone back yesterday as the radio didn't work had no sound they had to do a full factory reset on it, so for people out there that think this may resolve volume issues i can say no it doesn't i had to go back to zedge and set it all up again. My biggest disappointment is i can't get myplayer or catchuptv to work!!!!! I like you am tryin so hard to like the phone cos its not all bad. I watch my hubby wi my old iphone with all my games music and decent battery and could cry ha ha. So i feel i have to put my faith in htc to over the next few month bring some software updates :)

I'll probably be changing to go back to what I know best, Blackberry.

If your that unhappy with it send it back you'd be stupid to keep a phone that your not 100% happy with for 2yrs. Myself I love the phone and coming from the iphone to this was the best thing ive done.

i have decided to keep the phone although i've pointed out alot i don't like about it there are things i do like and i'm hoping that htc will rectify alot of the problems via software updates......gone are the good old days of bring bring and beep beep our problem now is technology has spoilt us we're far too fussy i guess lol :)

I sent an email to HTC about the battery and this was their response: (I've typed it because I'm at work and can't access my gmail account)

'Because. The processor is running 24-7.For the phone to be ready for you to use it once you hit the Screen, and not wait for it to start after standby.
This is one of the reasons why its not lasting that long.

If you could call us back after the next 2 weeks. Then i hope we have some solution, that will extend the battery time (its still for testing as we speak, and need to be approved before i can tell it to you).'

All punctuation and grammar mistakes intact, but what about that last sentence? Is this another OTA update or are they releasing a better battery?
Anyone got anymore info on this?

On thread topic, I am now regularly getting 36+ hours by simply switching things off unless I actually want to use them (wifi, 3G, GPS). Very happy!

Im ok with battery life but if a possible software update can give me more then brilliant!!

i have HDH for a 2 weeks now and it's best phone i ever had. Yes it have problems but good is outweighs the bad!

To Bonerp - "The HD isn't 100% far from it. But it allows me to email, use te web to bank, order goods and run my life when away from a computer (always my first choice - I wouldn't use the HD to go online at home), entertain myself, listen to tunes through my TV(awesome) and car stereo, access my camera at home, watch tv, set programmes to record blah blah what else could I want? A better battery...yeah without doubt. But I have learnt to live with the capacity I have in modern devices. Not amazing but considering what I can do on a phone now, I am happy."

Can you tell me how you play your music through your tv please (ie what cables do you use) and how do you set programmes to record (sky, I guess, but how)?

BTW before this latest OTA update I loved this phone and everything inc Sense and Sync worked brilliantly for me (now I hate it, but hopefully that's temporary). I have a couple of general design niggles - the contact duplication, the volume control accidentally hit when you power off etc, and the fact that I can't use Catch up tv/myplayer. Tried the Iphone 4 for 13 days and hated that, so switched to Desire HD. Camera on this could be better too (but the video is fantastic).

I think the issues with which you are talking about are the biggest issues among phone manufacturers today and that is maintaining the balance between screen size, features and usability and then providing a suitable sized battery that can then power all of this for an acceptable amount of time.

I have the HTC Desire HD, i feel the battery is not the greatest but unless your using it all day without access to a charge source or willing to utilise apps out there that can lengthen the battery life then your asking for all the problems your getting.

"Extended controls" - an app costing a miserly 69p will enable you to have on the home screen a bar that will let you by the click of a button turn down the brightness and turn on/off gps, bluetooth, auto-sync and even the 3g signal. I have done this from leaving the house and left my phone in my pocket during work and come to my phone at 12.30 (4 hours after being took off charge) and the battery level was at 98%.

App Killer is also good for cutting out any unnecessary running apps and i find rebooting the phone once a day gives it a chance to refresh itself and clear the memory.

I think taking time to manage your battery has now become part and parcel of owning a phone and unless your willing to do that then expect to have the problems your having.

My biggest gripe with the phone is the poor quality sound on video. Show a video to a friend and they are immediately impressed by the video quality followed by a delayed reaction of "The Sound is a bit poor". This needs to be addressed in the future update.
