ive left desire..here is why

I didn't say anything about you at all, I was talking about the bizarre "myth" that consumers only go for Android so they can tinker with their handsets. I'm saying that is rubbish.

Apple consumers have no choice, they can't tinker without unleashing the wrath of Jobs.

OK, thought it was aimed at me :)

Android will only get better, and hopefully Google listen to the feedback and actually make some worth while improvements to it in future

its not a myth really, alot of developers do go just for android because of the open source nature of it..

but the bulk of consumer buy it because alot CAN be done with it just in stock as it is...and to be fair a hell of alot more than iOS and Winpho7 when they are stock....for example...MMS messages...bluetooth....copy and paste :D....ok some of those are old and now fixed issues...but still..were important at the time..

On android we have much more control, whether we root or not...but with the other OS's you need to do something to it either cook it or jail break it to open it up from the get go really...

so android is great for both sides...my aunt just got a desire and she loves it but I know she will never root it and do some of the things I do with my rooted one.

:D

I would love to know what % of Desire users have rooted and what % have not. Probably no point in taking a poll on this forum because by its nature it probably has a higher than average proportion of people who are 'into' mobile technology so are more likely to have rooted than the norm.

I still have the stock version and am really happy with it. Rooting would free up a bit of space but 2.2 and App2SD has largely solved that concern. Might also give better battery life but I recharge the desire overnight and have a spare so even that is not an issue. Rooting would now doubt let me burrow in to the darker depths of Desite (oh matron!!!) but not sure whether the benefit would outweight risk of me cocking it up.

I chose the Desire partly because when I researched it back in May 2010 the reviews suggested it was the one to get, and partly becuase I have a major hang up with the Apple philosophy of being prescriptive on what you can and cannot do when the trend in open systems and freedom of choice. I have never regretted going with the Desire, and still cannot see a phone that I would swap it for.

Now when will HTC bring out a tablet!!!

the amount of non rooted desires far outweigh the rooted users trust me
sales alone for one mobile provider in the uk exceeds 10000 easily. could you imagine what this place/xda would be like if majority of desire users even knew what rooting was or even cared about the inner workings of desire customisation?

i see so many people on my train with them.

same here...was sitting on a london train just monday night and the guy in the seat behind me had a desire but his was stock...he was in quite awe of my earlier start trek like interface which was in the simple purple colour from the original creator....he didnt realise how much could be done with the phone..
