Root I've no real reason to root other than wanting more space for apps...

Yes, however some things you may want out of rooting will not be available on your current rom. A2sd+ for example...

So basically if I rooted & stuck with the same ROM the reason for rooting (i.e. lack of space so more apps to the SD card) would be pointless?

If you dont want A2SD+ based and other custom ROMs, or Nandroid, you neednt root. You may temproot to run Titanium and other root-based apps without permanent root.

There is data2sd. It's complicated though. I struggled a bit myself.

Id recommend custom Rom with a2sd+ though. See faq iny Sig

If you struggled I wouldn't even consider it!

Custom ROM & A2SD+ seems to be the way to go I just need to figure out which one.

I want something pretty close to what I already have with LP if possible.

Where's the best place to look for ROM's?

Teppics linked in the faq is basically rooted stock with mods. It's supposed to be pretty good. Never used it myself though

What rom are you on tony?

Based on this thread I stopped sitting on my hands and rooted and installed teppic's rooted stock ROM yesterday morning with nary a problem after reading through both of danfrance's FAQs and a couple other threads on here and on XDA. To ianb11 I'd say read carefully and go for it. Teppic74's ROM can be found here and after doing it there was little to outwardly distinguish this from what I had previously.

I like the look of this one.

For my first attempt at flashing a ROM, it went well and I really like LeeDroid with A2SD+. It looks like Sense when first loaded if that's your thing, although I restored LauncherPro using Titanium Backup and everything returned how I left it before the flash! Actually, I restored all user apps and system data from my Titanium backup and had no conflicts with LeeDroid, very smooth transfer.

Hi Every Body;
My Phone is HTC Desire, it had a HBoot 0.83
First of all after many hours of research in net and forums,i decided to Rooted it with UnRevoked v3.21, it was very easy and went as smoothly as possible.
Then after many hours of research in different forums i decided on two roms, LeeDroid 2.2f and MoDaKo r9 , and after some more research i chose the LeeDroid, it has got the Sense with it and all the originalApps, and also some Very Very usefull ones, and some nice wallpapers, and a very nice start up.
So i flashed my phone with LeeDroid v2.2f, it was also very easy and smooth, and i am very happy with this Rom, it is very fast and stable , AND Also very conservative with my battery, AND BEST OF ALL the App2SD+ works like a magic, i have installed more than 80 Mb of Apps, Games, and Live Wallpapers and i have lost only 8 Mb of my Internal memory.
By the Way, I have a Toshiba 8 Gb SDHS Class 4 memory card, i formated it as FAT32, Cluster size 32Kb, and then made a 1 Gb Ext3 partition, I did it with Paragon Partition Manager.
Just one thing to note, the first time you use the phone, when it reads the SD it is a little leggy, but then it will be as fast as ever.
And all in all , I am very happy and satisfied with my rooting and Rom flashing proccess,
Hope it was of use to you.

Well Leedroid has been good so far, just one odd reboot (in my shirt pocket). I've just flashed a launcher port made by Sturmtief over at XDA, I much prefer the style to the HTC Sense launcher. :)

The number of people who flash a new ROM and have failures *THAT ARE NON-RECOVERABLE* is very very small. Usually its because people do things without asking or reading or learning. They just put a .zip file on their SD card and try to install it without any planning or understanding.
