The guides are in the stickies of this forum. Follow them carefully and you should be fine.

Any advice on the wire i should use for the wire trick ?
There's a whole thread on that (http://androidforums.com/evo-v-4g-all-things-root/671631-wires-s-off.html), and some advice about it on the unlimited.io website.

Many people have been through the process before so try using the forum search function to find answers to you questions before you post them. You will find things easier using the advanced options since you can limit your search to titles only, and/or specific users and forums. You can find a lot of relevant information using Google as well.

Good luck!

I'm not sure why the jmz ROM won't boot, but since you are S-OFF and have a custom hboot already, just flash 4EXT recovery using fastboot, then "format all partitions except SD card" and flash a Sense based ROM. You will need to downgrade the bootloader to run AOSP based ROM's.

There are instructions in this post, but I recommend the JBear 1.50.5050 or ENG 1.04 hboot since 1.40 is a stock hboot and won't allow the extended fastboot commands like "flash" and "erase".

okay so we have a problem. i flashed hboot eng 1.04 and i got a black screen. after i flashed and got the black screen i rebooted into the boot loader after pulling the battery. and i go a message asking for another update so i said no. or clicked volume down whichever works for you. and then i pulled the battery removed the sd card. put the battery back in. rebooted to the boot loader. plugged my phone in. removed the battery and put the sd card back in. i rebooted to recovery and flashed the stock rom. i black screened. so i just flashed the stock 1.57 hboot using fastboot comand prompt. and im going to flash jmz's stock rom again. what do i do? am i bricked?

so instead of flashing jmz'z stock rom again after flashing hboot 1.57 i restored my mobster rom hd backup and it booted! :)

IIRC, that's because the stock ROM won't boot with the ENG 1.04 hboot. For Sprint users the stock 1.58 (or JBear 1.58.5858) hboot is required to boot the ICS stock ROM, so I'm guessing the stock 1.57 (or JBear 1.57.5757) hboot is required to boot the VM ICS stock ROM.

I'm having a similar problem. I successfully s-off'ed using JB 1.57 and now I'm also looping. I had flashed JMZ stock ROM before before running ControlBear. Rebooted and looped. Tried to restore my Mobster back up and looped. Flashed hboot 1.04 and still looping. Not sure what I did wrong. Any advice?

If you are using 4EXT Recovery did you disable SmartFlash (S-ON)?

Edit: Never mind, as I saw that you created a new thread for your problem. :(

Yeah didn't mean to post the same thing twice but I remember seeing this thread and it was similar to what happened to me so I posted here. Then figured I'd have better luck creating my own tread.

Anyway problem solved I think. I tried everything. Flash ROMs I knew should work with the 1.04 hboot, going back and and flashing JB 1.57, restoring my back ups, flashing JMZ's stock, changing recoveries {4ext, TWRP, CWM}. What finally worked was Flashing CWM and JMZ's stock like this thread says to do http://androidforums.com/evo-v-4g-all-things-root/626186-easy-guide-get-out-bootloops.html

Don't know what nothing else worked but glad its over. Now my concern is that I won't be able to boot anything else after going through all that.

You can try flashing one of JMZ's stock ROM's or a "stockish" ROM like Harmonia and go straight to the wire trick. You won't be able to get support from the unlimited.io (JuopunutBear) staff if you go that route and have problems, but a lot of people have been successful doing it that way. It's probably worth a try.

Wait, so if I am just rooted with S-ON and stock rom and do the wire to trick I will get s-off? I know that's not exactly what you said but I'm just wondering. Also, what else do I have to do? With hboot and stuff

If you are on the stock, or a close to stock ROM, and rooted using the htcdev bootloader unlock you can try the wire trick and if successful you will gain S-OFF.
