Help Jelly Bean discussion/issues thread (released Dec. 13)

Quick question. When it comes to this issue about not recognizing the SD card as a drive, does that mean that you can't access it at all? Or can you only access the SD card via the same method as accessing the phone's internal storage (via the media sync option or whatever it is)?

My GPS is staying on for some reason. Anyone else having this problem? And it's draining my battery. Already done 2 factory restores and it doesn't fix the problem.

Probably related to google now. Go through the settings and uncheck what you don't want.

There's a few apps you can use like betterbatterystats or gsam battery monitor to help you narrow down what it is

use ES file explorer or wifi file explorer to gain access to your card.

There seems to be a couple of missing Themes and Lock screen styles. Anyone know if there are any downloads available straight from HTC? There was also an app where you were able to download more ringtones. Was that part of HTC Hub which I noticed is gone now?

I understand that's its a pain. Some of the earliest rooted jellybean builds this summer suffered from a similar thing.

Could you help me diagnose it? If you hold the proximity sensor up to a bright light during a call and then take it away does it respond?

No, it does not. When I try to place a call the screen goes black immediately, the only way to get it to come back on is by pressing the power button. Now if I place a call on speaker, the screen will stay on as long as the call is active.

Hmm new issue that has popped up for me. When attaching a Screenshot I have taken of say a text thread to an MMS, the quality is degraded to the point where the text is largely unreadable. Some pictures attach fine but others are extremely degraded in quality. I know when you attach a Picture to MMS it compresses it and reduces the file size but it looks terrible now. If you want to test it the best example is to go to Settings > About > Software Information > and then take a screenshot. Then open messages and attach it to one, the text will be almost unreadable. I have not tried this with any other Messaging apps yet because I use the Stock. A small workaround I have found is to Screenshot and then Crop the area I am trying to show and attach that. It is still degraded but readable.

I did what you suggested and stretched my results. Some difference in quality, probably from being compressed for MMS, but totally readable. Perhaps its the stock messaging. I'm using Chomp.

Is it something everyone experiences? I know I've sent a few pictures and haven't heard anything about bad picture quality from the recipients.

Running stock still for now

use ES file explorer or wifi file explorer to gain access to your card.

I meant accessing the sd card with my computer while connected via USB, as that seems to be something a couple of people mentioned as an issue. Looking back, I guess I didn't specify that, sorry.

Edit: I think you may have realized what I was saying and gave me a workaround to do it wirelessly. Thanks. I'll check those out and see if they'll work for me as an option.

So I have to begin by saying I'm not a big phone geek. I love my HTC EVO LTE but probably don't fully utilize all it's functionality.

Last week it prompted me to do a system update- I'm assuming to what is referred to as Jelly bean. So I did the update....and from I can see so far it sucks. Here's what I've noticed...some of this I may be able to change but I haven't figured out how yet.

1- My PIN to unlock the phone has always been numeric- so a numeric only keyboard has always come up to unlock it. Now that has been changed to a full keyboard which makes typing the numbers in more difficult. Not a big deal but how do I get my numeric keyboard back to unlock the phone??

2- Voice mail- when you delete a voice mail it now immediately plays the next voice mail as opposed to going back the main voice mail screen- this is driving me crazy. I've searched setting but see nothing to adjust that setting. ???

3- In notifications, before when I would receive an outlook e-mail and clicked on the notification, it would bring me to my outlook e-mail. Now, when you click on the outlook notification it brings you into the actual e-mail that is new. I would much prefer to just go to outlook as opposed in the actual e-mail.

There seem to be some others that I can't think of at the moment, but any thoughts on these would be greatly appreciated...

Just got a reply from HTC support about my MMS issue and it is the standard clear out your cache instruction (which I had already done; it doesn't fix the issue):

Thanks for contacting HTC Technical Support Center in regards to having issues with your MMS after the Jelly Bean update. Michael; I understand this can be a great inconvenience. As a matter of basic troubleshooting I ask you to please perform a Cache reset of your phone. Sometimes, when this updates are applied, there is some conflict between the previous version and the update, that remain allocated on the Cache partition. To do this reset follow the steps shown on the attached file. Thanks for your continuous support of our products and services. Should you require further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us through HTC Smartphones and Tablets - Support for HTC Cell Phones and Tablets or call us at +1-866-449-8358

I have found how to access the google voice recognition with the new jellybean design hurdle, but am just curious, why would The designers choose to remove this shortcut and make it more difficult to access with Swype. It is clearly on the sense keyboard as a shortcut.

Is there a way to make a shortcut on the Swype keyboard for it? I would LOVE to replace the useless English/Spanish toggle key.

If you've done that, reply and let them know it hasn't been fixed

Unfortunately, the first few rounds of customer service for most major corporations involved jumping through the hoops the people reading from the script give you until you get someone with some power

Good note. I implore everyone else to do the same.
I found that a weekly (or monthly) follow up email until a resolution has been provided is a good way to keep the onus on them to execute a solution. It also helps your request find its way up through the escalations. I found it helpful to clearly state my intention, and that I will not close my support ticket until they have addressed my concerns.
I kept my Shutter Sound support ticket for the Evo 3D open for around 5 mos. until I upgraded to the LTE and the shutter sound was gone (there was an update to the Evo 3D after my upgrade that silenced the shutter sound again I believe?).

If I was in their job, I would not want a bunch of open support tickets hanging over my head and I would be actively trying to find answers for the folks who were following up politely and consistently.

Needless to say I'm in the process of opening a new support ticket for the renewed forced shutter sounds and I'm going to find the old ticket reference number and make sure they know that I'm back and not giving up.

Yup using stock messaging. The first pic will be before attaching to MMS:

Make sure your maximum message size hasn't changed. In the stock message app, menu, settings, mms settings, maximum message settings. Make sure it's at 1M.

Sorry, I should have stated it is set to 1m. Not that it matters though because it compresses it to 23k regardless.

Figured you checked that already, just thinking sometimes the answer is the obvious we don't think about. At least it is for me. :-P

I changed a setting somewhere and hooked my phone up to my computer and accessed my sd card. I read about it here. Now my battery has been draining less and when I get to work every day I turn off mobile data connect to my works wifi and leave my phone in my pocket. My signal sucks there but I changed my FB setting to 4 hours it was on 1 and I just turned off Google Now so I will test it tomorrow. What does turning off Google Now do exactally? It said my cards will be gone but it still lets me ask a question or say dial so and so or text so and through google voice so I'll just leave mine off. I don't care about the cards that popup.

on the Foxfi site, they have always said NOT to update to JB. This is one reason why I have held off on the JB install. I have used FoxFi on the xoom and it has come in handy a time or two.

Agree, your only recourse is to root, or head to xda and find ICS or pay for the hot spot feature.. :p

Download the latest version from the Foxfi site. Running fine on my recently updated Evo LTE with JB.

Other than not being able to mute the camera sounds JB has been solid. I turned off Google Now and battery life seems to be about the same. Phone seems pretty snappy. Not sure if I like the voice mail app yet. Seems a little busy for what it does.
