Help Jelly Bean update - Dummies Guide

hi
need some help please

i have a galaxy s2 that i bought second hand from somone. There is a software issue which does not allow me to access the main camera, when you click to access/activate main camera it prompts a warning message "unknown error by errorcallback" i was told to try upgrading the rom. so i tried it through KIES but i got an error message which is :

"Your devices current firmware version is not supported to update firmware via Kies"

After reading on the sites it seems i should use a software called Odin, i don't want to rush into just flashing a rom onto the phone. need some help.
the phone is showing unlocked and rooted.

PDA i9100XXL
PHONE: i9100XXL
CSC: i9100OXALPQ

ANDROID VERSION: 4.0.3

Can i get the JB or ICS roms flashed on this phone through Odin? what would you recommend, i checked on sammobile it shows country as Poland and the rom version that was available was the same one i have 4.0.3, is it possible to re-flash the same rom, which may fix it? just don't want to brick the phone due to my poor knowledge, help lol,, please.

Hello and welcome to Android Forums shahs48! :)

Your phone is indeed on the old ICS, Android 4.0.3, firmware for Poland, OXALPQ.

You could either re-flash that firmware... which wasn't very good to begin with, or you can install the latest version for Poland, if you want Polish firmware, of JB, Android 4.1.2, XXMS1, by following the instructions in #1.7.

If you are rooted, (use Root Checker from the Play Store to confirm this), and you do not need the Polish firmware, you could flash the latest NEAT ROM LSS to your phone. If you have any questions about this, go to the NEAT ROM thread in the All Things Root secrtion of the forum.

All stock firmwares have the English language. For other language packs, see #1.1.

hi

im having a problem in copying or moving the neat rom into my usb storage folder after downloading it, i can copy it anywhere on the phone just not the "usbstorage" which i believe is the internal SD right? when it reaches the end of copying it shows connection was disconnected and to skip all or cancel. i did the root checker, shows access granted. What could i be doing thats not allowing this?

Ooo I just got a software update download failed message on my uk unlocked XEU galaxy s2..

I've set OTA updates for wifi only and only on 'H' Mobile internet at Work so does anyone know if jellybean is finally on it's way?

Or whether OTA updates are even an option for unlocked handsets?

Never seen that software update message automatically appear before on my s2.. even with push notifications for updates enabled..

Cheers

I got the message this afternoon too for the UK update, it's not available with KIES at the moment so I've just installed the OTA update over WIFI, it's 391mb in size.
just finished and now it's stuck at GALAXY SII logo! f**kin great!

Edit, manually rebooted and back in the room!

Jelly Bean 4.1.2

Phone: I9100XXMS2

PDA: I9100XWLSS

CSC: I9100XEULS4

Today's XEU update is indeed Jellybean.... hoorah!!! :)

Installed using wifi this morning. No problems encountered other than having to re-install a few widgets afterwards.

Jelly Bean, Android 4.1.2, release for the following CSC code...

GT-i9100

XEU = UNITED KINGDOM (unbranded UK firmware XWLSS)

(For an explanation of CSC codes, firmware releases, eligibility, etc; for the Jelly Bean updates... see posts #1, #2 and #3.)

It says on post #2 that O2U = UNITED KINGDOM has been releasedbut when i've searched on the SamMobile Firmwaresthere is nothing for 02 UK. I entered I9100 in the search device box. Should i enter something different? Unsure where I'm going wrong.

I have the i9100P variant running CSCLP4 but other posts suggest I could use the not P version of jellybean, hope that is correct?Had to do a factory re-set today & I cant restore from my kies back up so thought I might as well try upgrading to jellybean.

O2U, JB, Android 4.1.2, for the GT-i9100 is showing fine here...

That doesn't look like the correct CSC code!

You can use the GT-i9100 firmware but you will lose your NFC capability.

This is cpw isnt it? F'ing typical! A full 4 days after I root and flash neat rom lol! Still I am enjoying a custom rom for a change :)

I've never used the NFC so I don't mind losing it.

when i enter *#1234# the CSC shows as I9100PO2ULP4, Phone I9100PXXLPC , PDA I9100PXXLPH thats also the CSC that shows when i connect via usb to Kies. Why would my code be incorrect, what may have caused this? I've only ever upgraded firmware via Kies previously. Should i wait for the P variant via Kies? It was supposed to be this week according to 02 but... I was going to, to be fair but as the phone has been totally re-set...

The SamMobileFirmwares page loads a hotfile.com page, do I just down load the files (1.6hours?) & then follow the instruction via odin in post #1.7

Thanks

As per #1.1, your CSC code is O2U...

The CSC code will determine if JB has been released for your phone's firmware and will look something like this... I9100XYZLPZ or I9100MXYZLPZ

The important part to determine your eligibility for JB are the 3 letters after the number... in this case XYZ, (unless you have an M, T, G or P variants. In which case it is the 3 letters after that).

That's right. The choice is yours whether you wish to follow the tips in #1.2 though.

My apologies, I'd omitted the O2U in my post, no idea why...no wonder it looked wrong to you!

I've got a back up pre-todays problems & I've just done a factory re-set, although no format of memory. I don't have an external memory card, is it still required?

Many thanks, starting file download, oooh :)

Because, as mentioned in #1.2, the file structure of JB differs from ICS, I am seeing that people who have moved app's to USB, (Phone's 11GB), storage or to External, (SD card), storage are encountering problems with updating as only part of the app is moved to those locations and may not get updated in the process... as explained in the link in #1.2. Personally, I always do a, "vanilla", install. That way I can check that the firmware update is not corrupted prior to installing anything. The choice... is yours!

In the words of Dirty Harry... "Do you feel lucky?" ;)

I'd rather do a vanilla install, that way you're eliminating potential for problems. USB storage deleted!

Feeling lucky is one thing, being lucky is another ;)

My feelings exactly!

Hello !
Finally jb is here for xeu :)

Right! Before I started the update I moved all the apps from usb/ sd card back to the phone. I then did a full backup to my laptop. I then removed the micro sd card and rebooted my phone. I then did a factory reset with usb wipe to clear everything and ive now started the update.

My question is when the update is complete and I put the micro sd card back in my phone will it find all the pictures and music that is stored on the sd card or will I have to take them off the card via my laptop clear the card and then put the pictures and music back on through the phone?

Sorry if this has been asked before ive read that much on here lately my head hurts!

Many thanx
