Help Jelly Beaned my Battery

Just because something is "state of the art technology" doesn't make it infallible.

I've learned after many years of being a PC tech that new OS's need to have a clean installation ( on Android, a FDR does it just fine ) and things like clearing the cache to get rid of old remenents will make a lot of difference. I"ll also uninstall or choose to not re-install apps that I found I didn't use previously as I may have first thought when I was installing them.

I've seldom had issues just following those steps... but there has been a time or two that I still had to hunt down an app that may misbehave on a new OS ( or different hardware such as a tablet or different phone )... No amount of OS updates can fix these types of issues when/if they happen... This is why I usually dedicate a weekend to performing an update/re-install

I'm just saying... don't assume an OS update will correct it... or that the cause of each issue being reported is going to be the same for everyone, it is usually more complex than that.

Rdsok: Agree with everything you say. I actually took a day off to accomplish the update, do a FDR, pour through my apps and select the ones most needed, tweak everything, clear cache, etc., put all my passwords back in, etc.
I guess because I rely on my Droid for so much as a business traveler, that my patience is tested when an update renders the phone somewhat unreliable.
I appreciate your feedback and suggestions, thanks.

I certainly understand... I practically run my own business through my phone. Calls, scheduling, contact management, email, package tracking... even some accounting ( through Remote Desktop ) and wireless network testing. I seldom use it for fun though I do have a handful of pics I took, some music and of course solitaire ( lol ).

Me too! Clearing the cache might have done the trick. Also, I have developed a new habit of regularly clearing the cache from apps that store way too much. The big offenders include the Amazon Appstore and ... wait for it ... Phandroid.

Has anyone turned OFF "Google Now" to see if that made/makes a difference?

I did this morning and I think that solved the problem for me.

I updated on Saturday and cleared the cache on Sunday. Even so, my extended battery (only 6 months old) has been draining down to 40% or less by lunch every day this week. I turned off Google Now and here I am 14 hours later with 60% battery life left. Clearly GN was the culprit for me. It's a shame, too, as I kind of liked it.

Try clearing the Cache (see close to the last Tip in the stickies.) It might help.

I cleaned my cache right after the update and it did not help. My battery won't last a day whereas it used to last up to 4 days (light user) with about 25% at the midpoint of the 4th day. I turned off most of the "toys" and I even make sure that nothing else is running that doesn't need to be. It seems to be an OS issues. Lots more popups of this battery issues around.

My latest theory is that the problem with the battery is related to the Amazon Appstore app. I run that every morning to check out the latest free app of the day. Afterwards, the phone heats up, the battery drains rapidly, and I end up rebooting.

I always check on my laptop for the Amazon Appstore App of the Day. I too have noticed a "heating up" under normal use.

I never had to think about battery with ICS. I just put it on the charger when I turned in at night (usually 18 hours).

It has been dying with an error message under JB after 12 hours of light to moderate use.

Yesterday I turned GPS off and it was a light day.

After 18 hours it was at 80%.

Hypnosis ... some new app is running in the background and using GPS and is the culprit.

Started this thread right after the JB update when I saw my extended battery drain before my eyes. Tried all the great suggestions from Thom and others here, but to no avail.
Then yesterday started to notice battery was draining more slowly. And today, even better, on for 12 hours of normal use, and I still have 46 percent of battery left.
Anybody's guess what happened. No new apps, GPS kept off, Google Now disabled, etc., but my guess is a routine app that I've had forever caught up to JB, updated, and solved the issue.
Thanks to everyone for posting assistance and their own issues and thoughts.
