"Jellybean 4.1.2 update"

Just a brief reminder that, while you're free to disagree with others' opinions, this should be done in a respectful manner as per Site Rules.

Thanks.... carry on.

I still haven't seen an answer to this question...

Say I load this build of 4.1.2 and the OTA arrives later and it's 4.1.3 (or any other version). Will I be informed of a new update to run? What happens if the official OTA is a different version from the one available now?

It will still be 4.1.2 when it is released. And chances are you will not get a notification of an ota update, and chances are also that it won't be any different, if so very little.

You can always just flash the new update when it comes out though, there's no need to do it via ota when it is easier and faster to just manually flash it.

You can do it now if you feel like it. Totally up to you.
my personal belief is there won't be much difference from this version to the "official" one anyway. Could even be worse, like the last "official" droid X update, that permanently killed development (for the most part) and made it impossible to return to a previous version. at least there is a good, proven method of rooting this new version, albeit a fairly involved one.

Um...you can't get an error from a non existent update...

U know I should not have posted that but you need to understand that if were in this post 99% of us know what we are doing and I happened to run into a snag and need a work around so when u post comments like that its not needed.

Just another update. It's been over 10 days now, and I am STILL loving Jelly Bean. In fact, loving it more & more. Not one, single bug that I can find. It's FLAWLESS. And when I read people saying that it made their phones "smoother", I thought they were full of it. But it is SO TRUE!!! Going from app to app, the transitions are so cool ... so smooth. Everything just works. Quickly. Smoothly. Flawlessly.

.

Side note: I did lose root. Probably my fault as I took zero precautions. I did not use voodoo root keeper, or any other method to try to keep root. The bottom line: I don't care. It is THAT good. :smokingsomb:

how do you update it if you don't OTA?

Is there going to be another round of an OTA update since apparently it didn't roll out to everyone?

You can manually flash it.... It is mentioned numerous times in this thread let alone the rest of the forum.

For anyone having the problem of double photo folders, someone posted a fix on another forum. Go to Manage Apps > Media Storage > Clear Data. Then reboot. I now have the original four folders with all the photos and no duplicates.

The instructions I followed are here

It's easy, but there are several steps to follow, and do ALL of the steps. People who report problems tend to have - missed/skipped/chosen not to do - one or more steps in the process.
I'd suggest reading all the way through the instructions and fully understanding what it is you're going to be doing BEFORE you start.
Put your phone in a different room while you're reading the instructions. :)

Yes, I expect that at some point Motorola/Verizon will push the update out to the rest of the phones, but if you want it now you have to do it manually.

As to quote you from one of your posts " if your not going to help then don't post"

You must mistake me for someone who doesn't know their way around a phone..

Is there a way to install it now? Because my RAZR says it's up to date.

Yes, but you have to do it manually and there's no word of this will be the official update. If not, it will take you off the official path. I'm not following closely enough, but last I heard there was no to downgrade from it. Has this changed?

To my knowledge there is still no way back to ICS once you're on JB - to be honest though I'm not LOOKING for that since I have no intention of going back. :)

For the non-rooted, doing this update may be a problem if it turns out that it's not final release and they are indeed knocked off the upgrade path.

For the rooted folks, eh, who cares - the devs will come out with a ROM (or lots of ROMs) based on the final release and we'll be flashing our way from ROM to ROM. :)

You will still be able to flash the update the same way you did the leak, rooted or not

Just follow the instructions in the link, to the letter and it will work. Don't skip any steps or add any. I added a factory reset into the mix when I did mine and had a rough time getting root back. I got lucky and was able to work around it. Those who have followed the instructions to the letter have been happy with their results.
