Root Jellybean Discussion for rooted users (Now Official)

Rxpert83

Dr. Feelgood
So for those of you who haven't seen this yet, we have both Deck and Drew working on Jellybean for our EVO 4G LTE.

Deck has posted a youtube video of his booting CM10 ROM and drew actually posted a test build via twitter that boots as well.

I've booted and ran drew's build for a while and its very smooth. If you decide to flash it keep a nandroid handy.

Awesome Sauce!! Thanks for sharing this RX. :)

Remember folks, this is a very early version of Jelly Bean. I'd consider this a pre-alpha build. A lot of things do not work, there will be bugs. ;)

As Rx posted above, nandroid before you flash this!

You'll need it. :D

Deck and Drew competing again? This is ICS on the OG Evo all over again. Led to some great ROMs though. I can't wait to see where these go.

We should also see jb miui "within the next week" according to the dev.

Currently no calls or data but he says he won't release it until those work

Well then that means it shouldn't be to much longer before we start seeing a slew of JB ROM's and I'm still getting used to ICS. Oh Well the problems we take on as ROOT.

It should already be KNOWN however I ASSUME nothing but PEOPLE DO NOT INSTALL A JB OTA. Never could say this enough in the OG forum and people would still screw up and do it. ALSO NANDROID BEFORE YOU TRY A JB ROM AS YOUR PHONE MAY DEPEND ON IT. ALSO TEST THE NANDROID BEFORE INSTALLING THE ROM. IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO IN SURE THAT YOU HAVE A WORKING NANDROID TO GET YOUR PHONE BACK FROM JB TO ICS. ONE LAST THING BACKUP, BACKUP, and BACKUP.

Too many times in the OG have we had people come in who have completely screwed themselves and expected us to bail them out and fix their issue. The best defence is a good Offence. (FB around the Corner :D) With that said if you screw up and mess up your phone please post as much information as possible so we can help you. It is much easier to help when we have a better Idea of what is going on.

I've spent hours arguing with people on xda who have come up with a method to "take the OTA while rooted"

It never ends. Sure, it may work with this ota, but what's stopping them from making you s-on with the next one? Anythings possible

So decks CM10 build is "now more stable than the cm9 one"-xda . Current bugs seem to be intermittent call audio for some users, data says roaming even though it isnt, multitouch, and google now can be buggy at times.

Switching camera can also force close gallery

As is tradition, I am flashing this now

EDIT: and its so smooth

Theres also JB AOKP floating around if you know where to look and are in the right place/right time ;)

I can't wait for this to start popping up on XDA so people will stop complaining about lack of development

:p

Apparently I'm the only one posting in here, but if you guys haven't tried decks cm10 yet you need to do so. :p

Google now is 100% operational.
Project Butter is Butter
Calls are now 100%
3G icons and "Sprint" displayed correctly for data
Proximity issues fixed
Battery issues are fixed by overclocking the device (https://dl.dropbox.com/u/63060876/LTEVO/EVO_LTE_OC_v1.1.apk)

The only real bugs are in the camera (deck took it out of the newest build until he can fix it) and video playback

You may get phone to force close on boot, but its normal

Oh boy is this smooth! I'll probably do like I did with ICS on the OG Evo, run until it starts giving me major issues. I'm digging the heck out of this.

I'm running the first 8/2 build he posted right now; I feel like the second one is a bit of a step back. A couple of FCs so far - in Boat browser and Speed test. Still setting up and restoring. I want to actually give this a full day of run time. Otherwise this thing has come a long way.its smooth, light, and real multitasking is a breath of fresh air.

How exactly does OC help the battery?

How exactly does OC help the battery?

Its gotta be something to do with the app replacing modules. All I know is the builds used to have really bad wake locks where the phone would drain 15% in an hour just sitting in my pocket---Thats no good when you can't just swap batteries.

Scottymail originally discovered the fix (workaround?) in IRC and shared and it def helps. Battery is much closer to stock.

There was a lot of discussion in the IRC last night with people saying the OC only saved battery because it kept core 2 offline, but my screen shots below refute that.
