Joining the Bionic masses

Well, I'm finally retiring my trusty old HTC Eris and have a Bionic on the way today! Been reading a lot of reviews (cnet/endgadget) and I must say, I'm pretty excited about it. The Eris was my introduction into the smartphone arena and to be honest with you, I loved the little thing. In fact I'm tethered to it now while patrolling this forum. It just started lagging quite a bit lately so I decided to check with Big Red to see if I was eligible for an upgrade... well low and behold, I was able to get a refurb Bionic for $20. It was apparently obvious that I was getting a pretty good deal in comparison to my Eris. I hope I don't regret the move. At worst, if it was a bad move then I haven't lost anything. Once I've got it in hand and up and working, I will most certainly be poking around here to see what all I can learn from the savvy vets.

Welcome.

I think that you'll find that the Eris was lagging quite a bit more than just lately after you try the Bionic. Enjoy it.

Welcome, thetingster. I did the same thing back in Jan; traded my trusty Eris for a Bionic. I haven't regretted the upgrade. The Bionic is much faster and has quite a bit more memory. Like you, the Eris was my first smart phone and I rooted it so I could load a different ROM and and play around. I rooted my Bionic, but haven't really found the need to change ROMs...yet.

Enjoy!

Welcome. The Bionic is a beast of a phone. I doubt you'll have any regrets. I upgraded from an LG Ally and the Bionic makes those older phones feel like a cheap toy lol.

Wow... This Phone is Awesome. Eris is to Bionic like a Civic is to a Corvette. I'm sure I haven't even seen it's true power, as I have yet to see my 4G in action. This is a bit concerning but nevertheless I'm very pleased with my $20 purchase! I live in the Northern Va area which VZ declares it's a 4G area. I might take a visit to my local VZ store to get their professional take. Thanks to everyone that welcomed me.

Check for system upgrades. (Settings/About Phone/System Updates) The latest system version is 5.9.902

I made the same move last Oct. and just rooted it. Don't see a need to swap ROMs yet though.

Yeah, that's the version i'm on. I'll run by VZ this week to check what they say. Besides I need to find a good case and car charger. Thanks!

congratulations, and welcome to the bionic side of the world. there are quite a few of us here that came from the eris. we'll always have a special place in our hearts for our little "first love" but moving on has been soooo much fun.

Thanks! I'm definitely still in the discovery mode with this pocket pc. Can't seem to put it down. I will say this though, I did love the HTC Sense widgets on the Eris. Wish I could get the photo gallery and calendar widgets on the bionic. I haven't been able to find any that quite measure up.

You know, I actually saw this one in the market but blew past it because I was really looking for the photo gallery similar to Eris'. I just installed this one and it's exactly what I'm looking for wrt the calendar and I've even decided to use the bookmark widget as well. Thanks for the suggestion. I might just have to do without, as I forget I only have 5 screens to work with vice the 7 the Eris gave me. Thanks again!

Oh god, I came from the exact same phone and I left it in storage for like 4 months (later gave it to my girlfriend), but when I pulled open that thing I realized the screen feels like it was made for a cat, and the speed was god awful...

Check out GO Launcher EX in the Market. A lot of people use it and you can increase the number of home screen panels.

I just bought a referbed Bionic from Verizon to replace my Droid X2. It will be here on Friday. We finally got 4g where I live and have had it for a while where I work.

I now have 3 docking stations and car mounts I am going to sell on Amazon along with my X2...hopefully I can get enough out of them to cover a docking station and car mount for the Bionic.

My son in law has the Bionic and has been very happy with it...I am not to worried about the battery going dead because it will be in a docking station most of the time and in the car mount.

The media dock is an awesome thing to have, depending on your needs.

My bionic is my only source to the web, and this phone has a webtop app built in that gives you a true full blown web browser! The dock even has usb ports on the back for memory sticks or keyboard and mouse.

I can confirm, that if you get a bluetooth mouse that there is a cursor (Pointer) and a bluetooth key works well with this phone. :)

I Love my Bionic. There are rare occasions where I lose my data connection, but it's brief and not enough to ruin my experience. My Eris has long been forgotten about, and I used to love that phone. The only thing that I wish I could have from the Eris is the stock HTC Photo Widget. I can see me holding on to this phone for a very long time.

The vast majority of the data drop problems were corrected by 5.9.902. People traveling between 3G and 4G areas seem to have some problems currently.

What is the problem you are having? Are you on 5.9.902?
