I just upgraded to the HTC Incredible and after reading this thread decided to try Juice Defender.
I have the basic setup but I am trying to figure out how to manage the apps. some of mine randomly turn on even if I force them to stop which causes me to lose battery life. How do I fx that and manage the apps with this program?

love this app, just downloaded it last night, i am at 7 hours off the charger with around 94% still left and i did not fully bump charge this morning. Normally i get about 12-14 hours off the charger will take me down to around 50%. so this is a great improvement. Also i am using the 1750 sedio battery.

Only 1.81x more battery life? Geeze that means you are almost getting double the battery life, are you complaining?

i take back what i said earlier, the battery seemed to have a longer life because the batter bar actually got stuck at about 92 percent, a quick reboot of my phone caused it to drop to about 85 or something around there and towards the end of the day i had not gotten any better battery life yet juice defender claimed it save my battery 1.68x i uninstalled it soon after that.

Can someone tell me what setting I need to set to keep data off when the screen is off but allow wifi to stay on?
In my office at work, I get no signal pretty much so I don't need 3G.

You can just turn off 'mobile data' completely. I personally have a widget on screen for easy access

Can I just say I really dislike the latedroid.com style of 'support'? I tried twice to fill in their stupid report form, and both times it just disappeared after I had it all set to send. And what the heck are 'votes'? I have a problem I'd like to get some help on, and the frustration level just makes it not worth bothering.
I keep getting a message in the logs that there's been some kind of fatal error and that I need to delete the program and reinstall it. I've tried doing that (went to the beta, as it said sometimes problems were solved with it) but no joy. Now I've deleted all traces of everything, Juice Defender, Ultimate Juice and Juice Plotter, and I'm going to try to reinstall. Oh, and rebooted the phone, too - twice, because the first reboot didn't go well at all, the phone was all screwy, unusable. I'm hoping it I give it a good ten minutes to settle down it'll behave better now....I'll be back with a report.
Nope, the AOSP helper app won't install, so the program won't run properly. Sending logs again - but do they ever get back to you??

I like this program a lot, accidentally loaded the beta instead of UltimateJuice when I reinstalled on the replacement EVO and I noticed the 4g feature (which in Michigan is useless to me) and some other stuff. I heard that if you root it, it will also be able to overclock / underclock your phone, but I haven't really looked into that because I don't really want to root it/lose things/worry about warranty.
In any case, I really wish I could specify which individual apps I want and which ones I don't want to ever access it, and how the browser, no matter what settings, would turn on data or wifi on click, despite access (and instead of having it always on when the screen's enabled) and I'd love for it to auto-detect GPS when I activate a navigation tool, like it does in the Droid X.
Suffice it to say, I'm reasonably satisfied and heard from the latedroid site that there may be a major update come mid-december.

I am thinking about giving this app a try but I'm concerned about this superuser privilege it asks for. What exactly does that mean? I'm running stock and don't plan on rooting.
I just downloaded the regular version. When I'm setting up the apps section what exactly is that? And what are the double green arrows, the grayed out arrows, and the grayed out arrows with the red "X" for? What exactly are each of those options for? I didn't see a breakdown for that anywhere.

I'm going to try this out. I work in a hit and miss area if I hold my phone just right I can get a 3g signal lol. I've been managing the 3g connection myself and have seen some improvement in battery life. Though I always seem to forget to change the setting maybe this app will help me with that. I'll post results Tuesday.

Nevermind... Uninstalled, app doesn't look to see if the data connection is active before shutting 3g off when the phone initially goes to sleep. So that is a big turn off for people that tether their devices. I use the phone at work for my personal laptop to do my personal stuff, so I don't get into trouble lol. I even tried to manually put the phone asleep while loading a webpage hoping it would see the data activity and leave it on until data transmission stopped for 15 min or whatever. Don't know if there is a setting in the ultimatejuice version for this. Though the app is pricey at $5, you can get the extended batteries for like $10 more. Then not have to worry about crippling the data connection to get increased battery life. Oh well....

juice defender is the bomb! amazing. usually I go to bed around 1am and get up around 9 and my battery goes from like 40% to 27% by morning. last night after installing basic setup on JD, I went to sleep at 46% and woke up and 42! it said i was up to 1.74x's

Hi, I have used Advanced Task Killer on this phone and previously on my Droid X. It worked great with Droid X but I do not get the great battery use increase in the Incredible. For some reason it kills aps and they go back on if you open it again.

disable it, then enable it again and it should give you notification options

Some stock apps always turn on after being killed because they think you want them. Other apps turn on after being triggered by certain (undisclosed) events.
To really manage your apps, you need to root your Incredible and then use Autostarts (Michael Elsdorfer). With it you can keep programs from starting on bootup and after trigger events.
JuiceDefender seems to work great with me. It consistantly has me at x1.8 and my battery life has seen great improvement. It's hard to say how much is due JuiceDefender and how much to rooting, Autostarts and the Android 2.2 update, which were all done around the same time.
Is there a way to stop apps turning on on their own or due to certain trigger events unless I want them to on an unrooted Droid X?
My understanding is that your device must be rooted to use such software.
However, even though it may be annoying, I don't think that most of the apps running unnecessarily consume much power, it is really the display and the radios (phone, data, WiFi, BlueTooth) that eat up the juice.
I didn't want to root either but it was easy with the right instructions (Updated: Root the HTC Droid Incredible - Technology - Jonamerica.com). There are lots of benefits besides the ability to use power-saving and program management apps. You can remove or disable unwanted stock apps and use wireless tether if your provider does not allow, or charges for, it.
