Help juicedefender blocks 3G when secure wifi present

JuiceDefender does a great job of managing wifi vs. 3G vs. battery use.
However, I have what feels like a problem.

I go into some place where there are lots of strong and secure wifi sites -- secure meaning I cannot use them at all. Next, I try to do some phone-data operation (check email, browse web, etc) and "nothing happens." Specifically, the 3G activity icon does not appear. Some data apps will complain saying, "you must be connected ..." but that is not true for all data apps.

Do I have a program bug with JuiceDefender, a setting issue with JuiceDefender, some other issue with a loose end-user nut, or is something else going on?

Merci d'avance,

I don't think that's a JD issue. Do you have any other wifi apps in use?

I usually keep my Wifi off unless I know I can connect to something. So unless you had previously connected to those other wifi sources, your mobile data should not be blocked by JD.

It's possible that amongst the secure wifi are a few open wifi's and your phone is trying to connect to the open wifi signal.

If that is the case, you should simply turn off your wifi when you're in the area where misc. wifi interfere with your mobile data.

While I agree with your analysis in principal, I find that practice is quite different and so I suspect JuiceDefender. Notice that I said "suspect" not "blame."

Consider that I carry my phone onto an office campus for a meeting.
There is lots of available wifi around that is secured against my use.
(This is a good thing for them to do.) I decide that I need to access the web and every connect attempt fails. I want wifi on and connecting when I visit places where I have wifi access and permission. Even if an open wifi exists in the wild, my phone should use 3G if the wifi resource is not active. More friendly would be a prompt, "Unconnected Open wifi found. [use wifi] [use 3G]" or similar.

Cheers,
