hello i'm leaving my hero in the dust and getting an evo. mine is rooted and i'm looking for a nice stable rom. i'm running aosp 2.2 on the hero now and would like the same on my hero. i'm also looking into 2.3 is there a stable rom that everything works 4g is no big deal right now, but everything else is. i know this is a repeat question but i've looked at all the forums and just can't decide. i don't want the headaches i had with the hero, reboots lock ups lag and so on. please help me.

I also went from a rooted Hero to a EVO, which I rooted after about 2 weeks.

Question for you, as I never experienced the reboots, lockups and lag on my rooted Hero, what was your setup? Did you overclock? what kernel where you using? Did you wipe everything before you flashed aosp2.2?

As I said, I now have a rooted EVO, but it is still on the stock Sprint HTC/ Froyo rom, and, so far, I am very happy with it as it is. For now. I removed bloatware, and installed wi-fi tether. Perhaps you will be happy this way for now, as well. The EVO is way faster than the Hero.

But...if you do decide to flash a custom rom, be SURE to follow the instructions provided in the rooting for dummies thread, and be sure to ask questions, as the process is a liitle different on the EVO. Have to be sure to get the right radios, PRIs, etc...

Eveyone here is very helpful, just be sure to ask.

And MAKE a nandroid after rooting! LOL

i tried cm6 asop and a couple sence roms. i was overclocked to 710 but i also lowered it to see if that was the problem. i usually ran stock kernals.

I'm gonna suggest Azrael X 3.1 I've tried multiple ASOP roms including CM6 and the CM7 nightlies and Miui. I think if stable and bug free is what you're looking for the sense roms are gonna be your best bet. I'd hold off on the Gingerbread stuff till there's a more stable, bug free version out there. There are actually a couple other sense roms that get good reviews such as MikFroyo's and Sprint Lovers. It's not cool to not have things work that you count on or have your phone randomly reboot, been there, done that.

Myn's Warm TwoPointTwo RLS5 is a Sense based ROM and everything works exceptionally well on it. I'm getting great battery life, even using 4G constantly. Besides if you use Myn's ROM he has a super informative thread running with many, many knowledgeable and helpful folks. Just my 2 cents. Enjoy your rooted EVO.

If you want a custom rom go with either Fresh or Myn's 2.2. They seem to be the best out there at the moment. I ran fresh for a few weeks until Myn released RLS5 and I've been running that ever since. I don't really see a reason to change anytime soon either.

Then do what I do and run Launcher Pro.

That’s no real answer; CM7 isn't buggy if you get the right build. Using build 12 was perfect. Others are saying 16 killed everything and build 17 works perfectly. With that in mind, I felt CM7 (even though it was a beta / nightly) was a superb Rom. I felt it recreated my EVO into the phone it was meant to be. Everyone here can attest to Froyo still being a bit laggy, gingerbread was spot on. I enjoyed its look and feel and as always back nandroid backups before moving on.

The Good: CM7 (read xda forums and other threads first for a stable Rom) In my opinion would have been my everyday Rom period, but it lacked a few things. No Sprint Visual Voice mail -> No biggie, it got me to try Google voice and honestly it kicks Sprints ass.

CM7 has no 4G and CM6 has wimax, but it’s in alpha and needs to be flashed separately like Google apps.

Lastly, and this was the deal breaker for me.... believe me, it pains me to have to leave gingerbread for this, but GPS is crippled... So without a fix, I couldn't go on, but that doesn't mean you can't try it.

*Oh and both CM6 and CM7 come with ADWLauncher... Trust me, as a purchase of Launcher Pro, I enjoyed Launcher Pro's widgets. ADW has none; however I feel ADW just works and has very cool themes. Go into the theme selector and it'll send you to the market where you can pick and load your theme. I have litter ally set my phone to look like gingerbread with the gingerbread theme. A side from being CM7's gingerbread, I have replicated it look with CM6 and enjoy everything, but 4G. Honestly, Launcher Pro is just to laggy for my taste.

*edit*
I rooted to leave Sense behind. Like most newbie Androidian's I fell in love with how Sense looked over the plain Jane Android versions on other phones. I rooted to get my phone moving as quickly as it can. All that crap bogs my phone down and I was done with it. I find I dont really need 7 pages of widgets, thats just me. You'll need to "shop around" to find your Rom. If you want stable and AOSP go with CM6 6.1.2 and make sure to flash the google apps after you've flashed the rom. It took some digging, but I found the Google apps I believe I'm using gapps 12.18.2010. PM me your email is you need Google apps for either CM6 or CM7, I have them both. I'm also leaving for the Gym and won't be back for a few hours. But I'll do what I can via EVO.... I get crappy data at the gym....

thanks to all! i put cm6 on and i am loving it!!!! i tried cm7 but it would just keep rebooting about 10 sec after starting. oh well i'm used to cm6 and will love to try cm7 once it's stable. i love the evo it's heads and shoulders above the hero.
