Just about to root my s2..

and i have a few questions to ask:

1) is there any danger for my apps? im gonna back everything i can, of course, but i don't know how to back up my apps without root.

2) im using the XDA forum's guide to root, and theres a bit there that i dont understand - in step 8 they say "Install Busybox and all that good stuff."
well, what good stuff? and what's busybox?

3)also, in step 10 he says "Now you can flash the Stock kernel to get rid of the yellow triangle" is that necessary? because im not sure what flashing is exactly, and i want to mess with it as little as i can, and if its only to get rid of a yellow triangle, i don't know how much the triangle bothers me..

Im sorry for the newb questions, but i couldn't risk rooting without making sure, and i couldn't find a definitive answer so im asking here.
If it matters - im using a galaxy s 2, version 2.3.4, xxKI1 , XWKI4.
Thank you very much, semus.

None.

This in IMHO the easiest guide to rooting the GS2. It does all the hard work for you, including the installation of busybox - all you have to do is download the correct version that matches your firmware.

To answer the second part, Busybox basically provides all the common Linux file and directory commands in one compact package. Instead of needing dozens of individual binaries it's all done by "busybox [option]"... very elegant.

"Now you can flash the Stock kernel to get rid of the yellow triangle" is that necessary?
It's purely optional and makes no difference to the operation of the handset (other than the cosmetic).

Noone should ever be criticised for "making sure", so no worries on that score. I just hope this isn't too late to help.... I was otherwise engaged tonight.

Thanks, that was very helpful - i was afraid to do something wrong, but now i understand that guide better..

Thanks a lot :)

How did your root go, Semus? I am in the same position but was concerned there were differences between rooting the European version of the S2 vs. the U.S. version. Any problems? thx in advance

i don't know about the EU vs US versions, but rooting (cf-root) is alot easier then i thought it would be, after you download all the files it takes less then 30 secs..
and i still have not explored different roms and stuff, but i find root to be useful for some kool apps - titanium backup is a good example.
