Root Just bought a used Droid with 2.2 that was previously rooted

Stupid question: How can I tell if it is rooted now? I installed SetCPU, and when I run it, it says: No root access detected.

I suspect that the previous owner reset the phone and now the root access is lost. What are the implications of this?

not a big deal really. Turn off the phone and then hold X while powering it back on. Keep holding X until you get to a screen other than the M logo screen Report back with what you see and I can advise you from there.
 
If it has 2.2, it has to be rooted. If it's running 2.1 and not rooted you'll just have to go through the rooting process. Does it have the superuser app?
 
Reboot the phone so you are back in the os again

Download this update.zip
on your computer

then follow these directions

12.) Mount your droid and place the update.zip in the root of your sd card.
13.) Power off your droid
14.) Power on your droid while holding X
15.) Now you are in SPRecovery. Click on install (Note you can use the volume rocker to navigate and the camera button to select.)
16.) Press allow update.zip Installation
17.) Press Install /sdcard/update.zip (deprecated)
18.) Once that is complete use the power button to get back to the main menu.
19.) Press reboot system now


That will get you rooted again
