Just Downloaded FROYO 2.2 via Kies Mini

Ill try to type this as clear as possible and easy on the eyes so people dont skip through this post, and perhaps others have the same questions i have, any help is appreciated.

So i just got the text today (3-18-11) from samsung saying 2.2 is ready

I read through this thread briefly and see all the trouble people have been having, sorry if this has been answered.

My current captivate situation:

Phone is rooted using the update.zip file- I enabled third party apps using sq lite
froze all the bloatware apps with bloat freeze (usless att apps never run on start up or any other time)

using Open Home with custom skins, wallpapers, fonts
Seems like tweaking the cpu settings with set cpu app has made my phone alot faster.

I am completly satisfied with the performance of my phone with little to no lag from switching different home screens, navigating etc. Swype seems perfectly fine cant type with out it

What is the true benifit of updating? It seems like alot of people are happier with the speed and GPS but i feel like my phone is really fast already. I dont need GPS cause i ride a motorcycle i just memorize all my directions

If this un roots my phone can i use the same update.zip file to root again?
And since i enabled third party apps using sq lite will this update recongnize any system settings that ive changed and screw my phone up somehow?

and i think i read this update adds more bloat ware?

Again sorry if these questions have been answered i just skimmed through this thread.
Thanks in advance

Since I updated to 2.2, HeyTell has TOTALLY sucked. I can't get any messages, no alerts, no nothing. It sends, but I have to force close most of the time.
-100 points for the upgrade

Gmail is great. I used to have problems sending emails after sometime. Would need to empty cache and it would send. I don't have that problem anymore.
+100 points for the upgrade

Uhh, no other real problems that I can see. The battery life SUCKS on the phone. I have a car charger and take my usb charger with me to school, but I go from about 8 am to 3 pm on a busy day, less use go to about 6 pm. I hate batteries, no idea how this compares to iPhone 4.

ATT SUCKS where I live. I drop calls like crazy. I live about 15 min outside of a fairly large town in Texas. No good. I hear Verizon is better out here, but I dont want to switch right now.

Not sure about your other concerns, but the only way to root the "official" 2.2 is with super one click 1.7. Its so easy tho that this shouldn't be an issue. Super one click will also enable 3rd party apps. Bloatware is about the same...froze with Tibu. All in all I think it's a no brainer to go to 2.2. Won't be long until almost all quality apps will require 2.2 and up I would say

I just got the sms from AT&T about Froyo being available for Samsung Captivate. I'm obviously weeks behind most of you, but no matter.

I was shocked to see that a requirement to run Mini Kies for the upgrade is: Desktop/Laptop Computer Running 32bit Versions Of Either Microsoft Windows 7, Vista, or XP.

So I have to find an old 32 bit computer to do the upgrade? How can Samsung be so behind the times??

Mine worked fine with my Windows7 64-bit laptop.

posted this in another thread thought i would post this here as well.

can someone please help? this can not be this difficult.

so...

i delete the version of Kies Mini off of my computer (running XP Pro 32 bit) and download the Kies Mini from the samsund site. (How Do I Update The Software On My AT&T SGH-i897 (Captivate) Phone To Android 2.2 (Froyo) Through Kies Mini For PC?)

i then go to Step 3: Configuring Device/Driver Install

 1. On the phone, USB Debugging should be enabled. To do this, go to Settings > Applications > Development > USB debugging. Tap Ok to the message. i do this without a problem
 2. Plug the cable into the phone and then into the computer. The computer should detect new hardware and install automatically. It will do this for several devices and may take a few moments. i do this and wait for several minutes and nothing happens.
 3. Unplug the cable from the phone and power off the device. Hold down both the volume up & down keys while inserting the data cable. The phone will enter a Downloading mode. The computer will then install the rest of the driver files. If there is a problem with Windows finding the driver, let it search online to grab them. Once the computer has finished, unplug the device from the computer, remove the cover, remove the battery, insert the battery, and place the cover back on. Lastly, power on the device. i try this for sh1ts and gigs and again nothing happens
 4. Restart the computer. then i restart my computer.

i then proceed to Step 4: Device Upgrading

i open up Kies Mini plug in my phone and click on "Phone Upgrade". Kies then disappears and i get this error message.

untitled-3.jpg

i click dont send and then i get this

111-3.jpg

i click ok and Kies comes back. :(

WTF!!!

can someone please help.

thank you

also my phone is rooted if that matters

update: deleted kies and reloaded it and turned off anti virus and tried again. i still got the same error messages.

Loving the new features... bout time.

Anyway, does anyone have an icon in the app drawer of an arrow with a "click" action and the text says "This file is read-only"? When I click it, it is QuickOffice. Anyone else's QuickOffice like this? Would I need to uninstall and reinstall QuickOffice? Thanks guys.

Mine's doing the same thing. Did you figure this out? Doesn't look like I can uninstall it. I have created a support ticket on the Quickoffice website. Maybe if everyone does it they'll fix it. Here's the link: Quickoffice - Support Center

Here is the response I got from Quickoffice support;
Dear XXXXX,

Quickoffice for Captivate devices is available on Android Market for free downloading. The version is published there as "Quickoffice for Captivate". For some reasons the pre-installed version is not working correctly on some devices after they are upgraded to Froyo. Sometimes device resetting corrects this issue. Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience this issue can cause you.

We also have a new release of paid Quickoffice Pro for customers with Android devices with 2.0-2.3.3 OS version.
You can learn more about this version on our website Quickoffice Quickoffice Pro for Android Quickoffice Pro is also available on Android Market now.

Please feel free to contact me with any additional questions. I'll do my best to assist you.

Have a wonderful day,
