Just got IPHONE 4 for VERIZON

I just purchased the iphone for my wife. I have played with the phone for two days. The phone is sleek and beautiful, operating system smooth, reception clear as day. BUT, for me I like the Android system on my Fascinate much better. I am waiting for the Tbolt!!!

THUS FAR HERE IS WHAT I'VE LIKED AND DISLIKED GOING FROM THE FASCINATE TO THE VERIZON IPHONE 4.

LIKE: Smooth un-glichy operation, better calendar, easy to add music and pictures, free visual voice, better reception(surprised), better bluetooth operation.

DISLIKE: No Swype, less interface customization

I'd switch again given the chance....love the Iphone....truly a great product that was well thought out.

Just my 2 cents....not a Fascinate basher...just thought some would be interested. Thanks!

thanks for the update :)

Adding my voice to the thanks for the update.

I'll be getting mine today (new line; the Fascinate is my phone ;)).

Will report back about it as compared to my phone.

Did you own an iPhone before? If not, what is the "ramp up" time to get comfortable with the iPhone interface vs Android?

I had to set up my parents' new iPhones the other day lol they're actually getting how it works pretty quickly but...I'm so glad I decided to stay with Android.

I like being able to control something from my main page rather than digging through my settings to do it. That, and pretty controlling however I want this phone to look with whatever I want :D

Does the Iphone have google voice search.. What about the voice guided GPS does it have it and how does it work? I would like to have a smooth glitch free phone and would trade the customization for the thousands of better games but I can't live without my google and gps.

It has both...on the things that matter the Iphone is better....on the customizing side no...but if you would rather the phone work great then I believe it is superior to the Fascinate. Just my opinion.

Yes we owned Iphones before with AT&T....so we knew how to use them....but they are extremely easy to get to know...so no worries.

Well, I had pre-paid for my new iPhone. Got the call yesterday afternoon and went in to grab it.

He was doing his thing on his computer with my account, had it out of the box, was activating it, then he handed it to me and I played with it for a while. I'd already played with several others over the past several months, mostly 3Gs. I "knew" I wanted one of my own.

Anyway, to make a long story even longer, I changed my mind right there. I had that thing in my hand and was noodling around and it came to me that I was wasting my money and their time. That thing is just too.... set in its ways or something. Yuck.

I told him I was having "buyer's remorse, big time." He grinned and said, "we're seeing a lot of that, but usually the next day after the guy takes it home and shows it to somebody else."

I love a sense of humor in a sales guy. ;)

You didn't know it was "set in its ways" when you were playing with the 3gs?

Playing with the phone of another user is a bit different than standing there in the store with one that's about to become mine. People do that with everything from hats to cars; they'll fool around with something and then go to get their own and change their mind.

I've not often done that; the only other time I remember was a Mac a while back. My kid got a new one, saved her own money and selected and customized her purchase online. I was about to do the same thing and reneged at the last minute.

I usually grab things I want and that's that.

I'm having a problem doing that with Apple products, it appears. ;)

at least you decided against it before you actually made the plunge, my buyers remorse always kicks in like 1 month down the line.

Wish I had waited. I love android, but the Fascinate is often slow, too many glitches, GPS is total fail. Android is great, but the fact that Apple makes ONE phone means they don't spread their resources thin. Samsung can't even focus on updates for this phone while they pump out 10 other phones simultaneously.

I just used my upgrade to buy my girlfriend the new Iphone, and I got her hand-me-down fascinate.

I had the original Motorola Droid, modded the heck out of it, but the Fascinate is so much faster and smoother than the Droid was, even running at 1.2GHz.

My girlfriend is liking the Iphone so far, but I do get random texts throughout the day saying something like "ugh, the multi-tasking on Iphone stinks compared to android" or "ugh i forgot that there was no Google Navigator" (she got lost trying to find something last night). But she seems to really like the game type apps for iOS more than Android (especially plants vs. zombies, i can't wait for that to come out for android).

BUT, already over the weekend i've rooted and installed android 2.2 on the fascinate, and she's starting to get kind of jealous of how smooth i got it up and running. We'll see if she lets me jailbreak her new toy!

Amen!

I was seriously thinking of burning one of my upgrades to get an Iphone just to see what all of the fuss is about.
A good friend of mine just purchased one and was kind enough to let me play with it.
My first impression is that the screen is just way to small for me personally. I don't care how good the resolution is on that retina display, these eyes had a hard time reading text on it as compared to the SF.
It is also a very heavy phone and would be very uncomfortable to carry around in a pocket.
The OS is top shelf, but with 2.2 on the SF there is not much of a difference in navigating around or using the net.
The volume is not nearly as loud as the SF.
I know this is not a fair comparison since I only used the IP4 for 30 mins or so, but just these things I mentioned turned me right off.
If anything, I gave the phone back with with a definite renewed liking for the SF. All my thoughts of owning an Iphone have vanished. I was so turned off with what I just mentioned that I didn't even have any interest in playing around with it anymore.
With that in mind, its going take one hell of a phone to be able to tear me away from this SF. This SF is definitely the sleeper of all phones I have been able to test out and I would buy it again in a heartbeat.
I have not posted this to start a debate over which phone is better, the SF just fits my needs perfectly, and to me, that's what its all about.

If you are tech-savvy and willing to put in the time to spruce it up, the Fascinate is the best phone out right now IMHO. The iPhone is very good out of the box. I told my mom and girlfriend to get one :)

Personally I would never get an Iphone, Verizon or not. I've used my co-worker's and after using owning Fascinate for a year and IMO I just "felt" I had the superior device I also had a 1st gen Ipod touch. No Iphone envy at all and it felt great.

The Fascinate isn't "glitchy" to me at all. The Fascinate is not slow and I really did not see any superiority with the Iphone, if any. Everyone will have their opinion based on their own usage of the device. I hardly talk on the phone and mainly text and haven't had any problems with either. Service has been fine, even in my basement. I'm a heavy internet user and download alot, not a problem with speed. Obviously wi-fi blows away 3G, but the the 3G service has been solid for me. I've had a few "nuisances" with the Fascinate, such as headphones with inline mics/remote not working, but that was just fixed with the latest update (yay!).

The shape itself is just plain ugly with the sharp edges and the cookie cutter shape. It just does not feel comfortable holding it compared with previous Iphone models. They seemed to throw away the whole hand contour design that the Fascinate has. Really bad design in my opinion. It's also thicker than the fascinate. I remember when the original Moto droid came out and Iphone owners where criticizing/mocking the "boxey" shape of it. Well, they now own an even sharper and boxier with their Iphone 4.

Afte using it, I actually prefer the power button on the side. It's just more practical and convenient for me when holding it.

I don't like that screen size anymore after using the Droid, the Fascinate is the sweet spot. Also, for a small device it just looks thick with how it's shaped witn no countours. At least the Droid has a slide out keyboard and is basically the same thickness.

Plus, being used to the ability to customize my home screens, live wallpaper, the widgets, the smaller icons, etc.. with the Android OS then just looking at the big icons while exploring the Iphone just kind of annoyed me. I said to myself, there no way I could use one of these after having an android device.

I hate Itunes. Seriously, I cannot stand Itunes. I had the Ipod touch and Itunes annoyed me beyond belief. It is not "easier" to transfer music to your device at all with an Iphone/touch it's more annoying. Nothing beats drag and drop transfers to a device - ever. Just the idea that you MUST use a program to transfer your media makes me cringe. There are several other options for music organizing/tag editing/cover art out there for Android devices. It good to know that you don't have to use just one that really isn't that great in the first place.

The Samsung Galaxy music player is probably the best on the market, with the other being the Ipod music player. Being an avid music fan with a huge music collection, this was one of the most important things for me when I decided to get the Fascinate. Personally, I've used the Ipod player and while the 'Cover Flow' was really cool and fun to play with, it wasn't really useful for actually going through your library. Then I used the 'Disc View' on the Fascinate and it was AWESOME. Not only it that looked cool, it was actually a different way to explore my library and very practical and useful. There is no way I could switch to anything else anymore. I would use my Fascinate as a multi-media device alone, in the event I don't even have phone service in the future.

Can't forget the file explorer and the ability to manage files and folder on the SD Card. This is a huge plus for me with the ability to see folder view and move folders around, and "hiding" some from the media player is also useful. I just also ordered a 32 GB micro sd card, finally!

This is just my opinion based on my experiences. The Fascinate is the best smart phone/multimedia device I've used and will stick with it as long as possible.

Better Calendar?.... Compared to what?
Easy to add music and pictures ?.... how hard is drag and drop?
Free visual VM,?.... Free visual VM using GV
Better reception? is that with or without a cover?
Better Blue tooth? I'll have to take your word for that one. :D

Oh well to each his own I guess. Have fun with it.

Exactly my dude ;)

I had my mom get an iPhone because it's like "smartphones for dummies." She doesn't know how to go into the sd card and move music/files around like we do. I just had to jailbreak my brothers this weekend so he could play emulators lol.

I wonder why Google Maps are better on the iPhone. On the iPhone google maps include navigation by train and it shows you which and on what time trains/subways arrive and which ones to take.

You would think since maps are made by google they would include this functionality in their own operating system.

yeah cause downloading an extra app, going to google to sign up for gv and then setting all that up is so much more intuitive than already having visual vm in the built in dialer app.

You obviously don't use GV, because after it is setup it is seamless. No logging in, etc... It even will transcribe your voicemail for you if you choose.
