Help Just got Xperia Play... Need help

NitroEX

I've just got the Xperia play and I've never had an android phone before so I'm really confused. Right now the phone is pretty empty and has no applications and I've been told that to get some I need to use the phone's browser but the problem is every time I try and set up the phone's wifi connection with my wireless router it will say "obtaining IP adress" but then it says "Connected to (my router) with limited connectivity". I don't understand why it says this because I entered the right password during the setup. At the moment I can't access internet through the phone at all and keep getting error screens when I try and access the games store or youtube.

Can someone please help?

You can use 3G service for downloading apps. The wifi sounds peculiar though. Have you tried power cycling the router? Do you have the DHCP server enabled on the router? Are you connecting B, G, or N?

I'm not sure how to use the 3G stuff. I'm not a big phone person and this is the first new phone I've had in a few years.

I did try restarting my router by turning it off and on again but that didn't work. I'm not quite sure about the DHCP server or what you meant by B, G and N but I looked on my router's settings page and all it says is "DHCP: ON" under LAN.

Another thing I've tried from reading other forums is opening the command prompt and typing in "IPCONFIG /ALL", "IPCONFIG /RELEASE" and "IPCONFIG /RENEW" but that had no effect either.

Hope this helps.

Do you have any other wireless devices connected to the router? I would turn off the password protection on your router's wireless security and try connecting that way. If it does connect without problems, then try a different wireless security protocol, ie WPA instead of WEP or WPA2 PSK instead of WPA.

Limited connectivity usually means you entered the wrong network key or you entered an invalid IP address. I'm guessing it is the wrong network key. Or your router is not connected to the internet. Are there other devices or computers using your Wi-fi and connecting ok?

Something to try as this has worked in the one other occasion I have seen this would be to download Wifistatic from the Market and then try to connect to the router again.

i had that trouble with my x10... also was with Bell Sympatico... no market at all, swaped the phone 2 times before we found out it was a router trouble...
since we changed the router everything is fine

Indeed, it generally is a router configuration compatibility issue however wifistatic will often get you around this if you are unable to replace the router.
