Just ordered my Nexus

Bren S.

Android Expert
Just ordered my Nexus....had to come up with $$$ faster than expected due to the court ruling and not knowing how that will affect things. Now let's hope it ships.

I was wondering a couple of things:

I noticed there is no sd card mentioned for the Nexus.Does that mean the Nexus does not use a sd card?

If it doesn't use a sd card how does one load apps, books etc via the computer?
For instance I read books via the Kindle App and I often load them onto my phone into the Kindle folder via computer. The sd drive comes up and I find the folder etc. but the folder is always on the sd. So how will this work?

Also I will be going with Straight Talk and was going to choose an AT&T sim,but I'm wondering if there are any issues purchasing Apps on the Play store if using a AT&T sim?

Thanks

there is no SD card on the Gnex

when you hook it up via USB to your computer, the SD card portion of the memory is shown. Just drag/drop.

It has internal storage, but no SD card. You will still be able to hook the phone up to your computer, and transfer files. However with Kindle, can't you just sync the app and get all your books that way?

Shouldn't have any issues with the Play store. :)

It has a "built in SD card".

About the kindle thing, why not just use the kindle app to load your books?

I get books from several sources and not all are purchased from the Kindle store. For instance some books I get are not in .mobi format so I use Calibre on my computer to convert them to .mobi. If that makes sense.

Also the AT&T part of my question is because I thought I recalled reading somewhere that some apps were unavailable because of something with AT&T incompatibility or something with some apps on the play store??

A couple months back, I picked up 3 LTE Galaxy Nexus' for $300 on Amazon Wireless. Heck, they even threw in 3 free car chargers! Hope you looked for a deal op, because there might be some Nexus deals out there.

Interesting but I have no interest in an LTE version.

I'd think that shouldn't be a problem on the Kindle part, as long as you can look for the books with the app.

Also, I know that VZW blocks apps every now and then for certain phones, so I'm sure AT&T would also do similar stuff, but I can't say for sure.

I won't have enough disposable income to buy a Nexus until the end of the this week, hopefully I'll still be able to get one but I am not optimistic. I suppose if it doesn't happen it wasn't meant to be...

I ordered mine friday, and I was on the phone today asking them about how the patent thing will effect sales. As long as its posted on the website for sale, you WILL get it. Mine will be delivered tomorrow.

EDIT: It also took until this after noon for it to update shipping information. So just be patient you WILL get it

Thank you, question how did you get your tracking number ?

Yeah I wasn't planning on taking the plunge quite so soon either, but I moved some things around to make it work.

Which means that they'll probably continue to be for sale irregardless and I will have rushed for nothing. lol

Yeah the Kindle app isn't so great when it comes to the option to look for books. The books have to be dropped into the Kindle folder which is why I need ot be able to access the storage via my computer. Now I'm concerned because not being able to drag and drop things into folders etc via storage would be a deal breaker for me. :(

youll get an email with the subject saying:
"Your Google Play Order from [Date_Here] Has Shipped"

it will contain the tracking number, and it will take about 24 hours for you to see any updates

The most recent Kindle for Android app gives you an email address that you can use to add books. You simply send the books you create through Calibre as an attachment to that email address, and it will add the book to your Android device from the Amazon servers. You can find the email address in the Kindle app settings.

Yeah I'll wait and see once I get the Nexus here and hook it up to my computer and see what shows up.
I refuse to believe that such a great phone that has gotten so many things right would have such an elementary thing not be easily workable.

Not to sound horribly stupid here but how would I do that?

The only experience I've had with by its a headset/earpiece...so I wouldn't have a clue.

I think he was referring to using BT to transfer files from your computer to your Gnex, assuming that your computer has BT installed (most new ones have that option.)

However, if you do that, it'll take until Christmas to transfer a book. Took me 30 minutes to send a CD's worth of music via BT. By USB, it takes 30 seconds.

at worst, you'll have to load the Samsung drivers on your own - not too difficult
