Just ordered my Volt!

Just ordered a Volt through Amazon, cheaper than the VM site. Picked up a case and a screen protector as well.

I had gone to the Optimus F3 after my Evo V died on me...and it's an *alright* phone, but from what I'm reading the Volt is way better. I'm really excited to be back to a phone that's actually capable.

Here's hoping we unlock the bootloader (or at least bootstrap it).

I'll be rooting from Day 1... any *must-have* apps? I think I'm gonna switch to the Google Now launcher [[how do I uninstall the stock launcher?]]. Already a long time user of Textra, Swiftkey, and Root Explorer.

Very excited to be a part of the LG Volt crew.

Of course Titanium Backup and Greenify. I would not uninstall the stock launcher after you install the Google launcher, if something goes bonkers you'll be without a launcher at all, thus a nonfunctional device.

+1 Greenify. The Volt doesn't really need it, it has plenty of power and battery life to go around, but maximizing performance the Greenify way never hurts.

Also, guest mode is part of the stock launcher. Remove/freeze it and you lose guest mode.

I would say youll def need a file manager to be able to move files to sd once you root but you said you like root explorer. if you have experience with xposed module id recommend that but keep in mind we cant make backups yet. before removing the stock launcher i recommend trying the lg g3 launcher. it works smoothly on this phone. i still use nova prime but find the g3 launcher to be cleaner and smoother than the stock Volt launcher.

I just ordered mine today. I would've gone with Amazon if I lost the auction, but ended up getting mine for $145.50 with free shipping, so not too shabby considering it retails for $179.99. I was just curious about overclocking. I have a friend who tells me the only drawback would be the 1.2GHz CPU. The All Things Root guide showed that it's pretty easy to root with Towelroot and SuperSU, but I was wondering if anyone has or is able to overclock the LG Volt. I have the Virgin Mobile version if there's any difference in hardware, ROM, or kernel from the Boost version. I'm upgrading from my HTC Evo V 4G. It had a good run, but it can't seem to pick up the 4G LTE that pretty much covers my entire state. The stock ROM had a 4G switch, but I think it's WiMAX, not LTE. It finds a signal from Sprint, but it doesn't seem to get me any speeds higher than what I'm able to get on 3G. I read that the LG Volt isn't only LTE-ready out of the box, but it's also made to run on the new Sprint Spark LTE, which is all over the Chicagoland area, and I vacation there a couple times a year. I was also missing features such as NFC and IR Blaster. The specs list Tethering as a feature, but I didn't think that was possible with VM as the APN blocks it. I suppose that's another question. I really should just list questions.

1. Is overclocking possible?
2. Does data tethering work?

That would be awesome for 4G on such an inexpensive unlimited data plan.

The EVO V has WiMAX for 4G only, no LTE, so if you're not in a WiMAX area you only get 3g. I upgraded from a EVO V too, love it so far.

Yes, the Volt has Spark, which mean you can get up to around 60mbps download, i've so far seen up to 45mbps on mine when in a spark area.

I've seen the spark symbol in my status bar multiple times today after receiving my phone, but I only got 2mb/s for dl speeds. I guess I never had luck with data speeds lol

I guess I did well buying a new Volt thru Ebay for $134 (including shipping). Setup was pretty easy.
I have moved from the HTC One V and find I the Volt a solid upgrade.
Hope it works this well for the OP.

I was lucky enough to get a Volt on Black Friday for $39.99.

As far as important root apps are concerned -

Titanium Backup (a must for many reasons)
Samba File sharing (best way to transfer stuff to and from your PC and everything else on your network)
ES File Explorer (great as a non-root app, incredible as a root app)
AdAway (if you're into that kind of thing)
SD Maid (or some other app to clean up stuff)

and your own custom boot animation, just because you can.

I've got a couple of others (plus the basics like BusyBox and Terminal) but these are the key reasons why I root my Android devices.
