Got a new phone running HBOOT 2.02? Still think you're unable to root? BANANAS!

[GUIDE] HBoot 2.02 S-OFF - xda-developers

Follow that link and download EVO2.02.rar and if you'd like, one of the beta EXEs(I used 7.1).

Simply extract the EVO2.02.rar into a folder of its own and if you downloaded a a different EXE, plop it into that folder. Run the EXE as follow the directions and just be patient.

You will be done after you phone reaches firmware 2.1-update. From there, just download superuser and rom manager. I flashed the alternate recovery, Amon RA since it backs up your WiMax keys, and immediately flashed Myns 2.2 RLS4.

Enjoy!

ALL Thanks and Credit goes to toastcfh, TheBiles, keishou, Koush, maejrep, Paul, Amon_Ra, and amoamare for putting this together.

quick cliff notes as to how this differs from the other methods of rooting 2.02 HBOOT that have been posted

I like it...and welcome to the world of rooted Evo :)

I believe that's because those individuals are trying to downgrade their HBOOT, which is why it's disabled after beta 6. Assuming the user just selects "Free my Phone" then their shouldn't be a problem, lest you be struck by lightning.

I just got a new EVO today. I followed a video tutorial on unrooting the HTC EVO 2.2 Froyo. Installed an updated driver software for the device: Android Bootloader Interface. Then used Unrevoked3 to root the phone. Ultimately encountered "Internal Error: Couldn't Find Misc".

Did some more research and realized that unrevoked can't root hboot 2.02.

Now that my driver is updated, will that cause any problems if I try to root my phone with this method? If so, what do I need to do?
