Well I took the plunge and rooted my HTC Hero with the help of some twelve year old sounding techie over on you tube. How to root a Sprint HTC Hero **EASY** - YouTube
After getting superuser permissions I followed his directions to get HTC sense 3.0. My phone is sluggish to say the least and I can't get a wifi tether which is why I rooted in the first place. I did do a backup as suggested in the video but how do I get to it.

Okay, first of all, congratulations on rooting your Sprint HTC Hero and trying something new. Second of all, what ROM did you flash? If you could provide a link to the ROM and maybe its forum thread, that would really help a lot. Perhaps, a brief description of how you went about flashing the ROM would be helpful in ascertaining your performance problems as well.

HTC Sense 3.0 was originally developed for handsets rocking a dual core processor and 768 MB to 1 GB worth of RAM. I know it runs fine on the older Sprint HTC EVO 4G, and I have heard of "light weight" ports of it for the Sprint HTC Hero, but I have not personally tried one out yet.

The V6 supercharger can be a benefit for speeding up the rom, also overclocking the processor can help. But in my experience, it takes a while for the phone to settle in before it speeds up.

Hi Thanks for the responses. Since I could not tether my phone with this Rom I moved up to Cyanogen 7.1.0 ROM Dl from here CyanogenMod 7 for the HTC Hero (CDMA) :: V7.1.0 (9 Oct 2011) - CyanogenMod Forum
I also installed the gapps. Phone is running super fast and I just love this ROM. It's like I have a new phone. That being said, for some reason under wireless & networks settings I do not have a WiFi hotspot option. I was told that installing this new ROM would make tethering to my Thrive possible. Should I reinstall the this ROM? Where did the wifi-hotspot option go? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
