Root Just Rooted... need help.

jojo54696

Newbie
I honestly regret rooting because of the amount of time a have spent now.

I rooted just fine.

I have CM7 Nightly for rom.

Questions...

How do i get backup assistant so i can get my contacts back.

How do i get the apps off of my original backup file so i have them back.

Where can i get a theme that actually works. I spent hours trying to set up INCredble REVOlution only to the realize that why it didn't work was because it is outdated.

What apps can i use now that I have root?

Thanks.

Not sure if it's compatible with 2.3 or not. If so, you can probably find it uploaded on the net somewhere. Better of syncing contacts with Google so they're always available. Also, Titanium Backup is all but a requirement.

From what backup, a Nandroid? If so, you can't extract them out. Most people use Titanium Backup for their apps. In that case, you go to the market after reloading the Rom, redownload Titanium, and it uses a file on your SD card to recognize who you are and you can then restore all your apps.

Only theme I'm personally aware of is Darkginger by djdarknight and I haven't really heard that much about it since the transition to nightlies. Remember CM7 and Gingerbread in general is in it's early stages yet.

Anything that requires Superuser. Drocap for screen shots, Root Explorer, SetCPU, Titanium Backup, Rom Manager are just a few of the usual suspects that come to mind.

Hope that helps some.

That's a nand backup. May be wise to use it to go back to a setup where you had all your apps, then take that opportunity to get Titanium backup and back up your apps. Otherwise you're in for a long haul with flashing Roms.

Doing it now. I didn't know anything about TB. How come it isn't more clear.... is there a post of all the things you should get?

EDIT: A new update for nightly just got released. Do I have to wipe again or can i just install since I am updating from version 5 to 6.

Here's a writeup that may come in handy regarding Titanium Backup:

Also, when you first install it and have any issues related to 'busybox', press the "Problems" button at the opening screen of Titanium to take care of it. Only have to do that the first time if you even have issues at all.

Re: wiping between nightlies...user preference. If you have issues, you can always go back and wipe, then reload. Personally, I always wipe but I'm probably in the minority on that point when it comes to nightlies in particular. Just be sure to keep nandroid backups as needed to make your life easier. Also, if you get a lot of nand backups on your card, they start to take up card space quickly. May want to delete older ones as needed (/sd card/clockworkmod/backups) or move some to the PC. If you have a big card, may not be much of an issue.

Be wary when going from Froyo to Gingerbread...when you restore apps using Titanium, make sure the only ones you restore are market apps. When you read the tutorial I posted above, if you use the "Restore all missing apps + data" option I mentioned, look through the list that comes up at that time and uncheck anything other than apps you have downloaded. There may be stuff related to 2.2 in there and you don't want any of that on a 2.3 Rom like CM7.

I restored it all, totally ****ed up my install. have to go back now. ****.

EDIT: Weird i reinstalled cm7 and now TM doesn't even detect all my backups... guess ill go back to my oringonal stock and do anything titanium. WTF.

I am getting pissed

EDIT2: I just looked up how to install CM7 Nightly

and it says you need....

STEP 1: Getting Clock Work Recovery mod 3.0

I never did that... but cm7 still works... and installs fine... Do i need to go back?

Idk you lost me on what you were doing. When I install a CM7 nightly, I wipe data in clockwork, then wipe cache, then under the advanced menu, wipe dalvik cache (all in clockwork back to back). Then I load the Rom from SD card once again using Clockwork, then I immediately load Gapps via clockwork, then reboot to sytem and set it all up. Go to the market, redownload Titanium and restore missing apps.

As I said, many people flash new nightlies over each other without wiping data/cache/dalvik. Also I've heard some people say they prefer to load just the Rom, then boot into the rom one time and then go back into clockwork and load Gapps, then reboot back into the Rom. Just an alternate method if you're having problem when flashing the whole works at once.

If you're not having an problems, I wouldn't change anything.

Sigh. ok i installed the recovery 3.0 for the wrong phone so i can't boot into recovery now.

Does incredible not have a CWR 3?
