Just shattered my screen...assurion vs wirefly

i just went through asurion due to water damage (happened while applying ghost armor). They sent me one new in box. Id imagine they will start sending out refurbs as soon as people start having issues though.

My phone fell and cracked on the bottom left hand side this happened 6/8/10. I went to Radio Shack the next day to see if there insurance covered accidental damage and it doesn't. I completely forgot that Sprints Insurance covers accidental damage. I pay $7 a month for full replacement insurance.

So, I put in a claim with Asurion online (they are the insurance company Sprint uses) and was told to send in more information (Sprint Affidavit filled out and signed with a clear copy of my Drivers License. This all happened 6/9/10) After that was faxed in I called the next day to make sure they received the information. They did and the CSR spoke about the $100 deductible and I had it applied to my Sprint bill (you can pay using credit card as well.) He also mentioned it would take about 5-10 business days because the phone is fairly new.

I got an e-mail saying my claim was accepted and is being processed. On 6/15/10 I received a tracking number from Asurion. On 6/16/10 I received my new EVO. I got a brand new EVO because it came with a new battery, microsd and charger. Usually when you get a replacement they only give you the phone without the extras. I put the cracked EVO in the self addressed padded envelope and mailed it off yesterday 6/17/10.

I'm sure at some point they will start to give out refurbs when others are sent back with defects.

So has anyone had experience with Wirefly's insurance? It is cheaper if you buy a one year contract, plus no deductible.

Check with your credit card company. Mine (AmEx and Citi MasterCard) both cover 90 days of accidental damage if you used their card for purchasing it (and they also extend the warranty one year).

I've heard this before, but does it really work? Do you have any experience with it? Since they don't really have customer service locations you can visit in-person, how would you even go about making a claim? It seems like it would be ridiculously open to fraud if you can just call them up and say "Hi, I bought a $400 phone on my card last month, you can see it on my statement. Well, I dropped it and it broke, so can you give me another $400 to buy another? Thanks."

Many of them exclude cell phones under the accidental damage. Read the policy usually available online. I "think" Amex does for accidental damage plus they only cover you for what you paid for it not what the replacement cost would be.

You have to pay for it yourself and submit the claim online or through cust svc. However you only paid $199 for the phone, you won't get $450 to replace or repair it, only what you charged. You obviously need to send them receipts for the repair. I also believe cell phones are excluded from the loss or damage claim.
