Root Just shattered my screen...

Left it on my lap, then got out of the car and it fell right on its face. The screen shattered something fierce. I can still use it, but it has to be replaced. I'm pretty sure that I have insurance on it, but not certain. I have a buddy that works at the Sprint store fairly near me, so I may just go through him. If he says I will get any flack for being rooted, then I will just say it was stolen. I'm just hoping that I will have no issues rooting my next phone. Damn, I need a case/protector for my 3500 mAh battery.

POOR EVO!!! :(

You'll be fine. If you need to Un-Root, just hit up the guide. And no matter the Build# of the next EVO, ROOTing will be as easy as Gingerbread :p

Thanks. It was my fault so I can't ask for much sympathy. I'm just glad that I can root the latest build as easily as I did this one. I will see what I need to do tomorrow! Be careful my friends!

DOH!!
can you take it to a sprint repair center and just pay the 35$ repair fee. not sure if that works for broken screens but may be worth a shot.

ps. my wife did the exact same thing 2 nights ago when we got home. man I was biting my tongue as I just bought her the phone 2 weeks ago. but somehow the thing didn't break or even put a scratch on it.

I think they fix for free if you have the insurance. $35 if not. Shouldn't have any issues with the root as it's not a software issue.

I can't remember what coverage I have on it. I should have something, though. I figure worst case scenario, I'm out $100 for the deductible on a replacement, which, while not great, I can live with.

I really need to get a case modified to fit this Chinese 3500 mAh battery cover. I'm thinking about hacking up a TPU case to make something similar to the bumper that iPhone4 users have. I have access to some dental tools for grinding down the edges, so I should be able to get a clean look.

I just saw your location. I've used the corporate repair store that's in the front lot of Parks Mall for a screen on my old Hero. The tech commented on the root and just showed me his and what he'd done. I forget the guys name.

Thanks. Just talked to my buddy in Watauga and he said they have one type of screen in stock. If it is compatible he will replace it free of charge.

Aw man...i wanted it.. haha
But congrats on the new screen, glad they fixed that up for you that easily. Sprint is great to work with lately, their customer service has really been putting us first for most issues.
Now get to making that case ;)

Ha ha...and I wouldn't have minded selling it! We have been with them for about 13 years and complaints about their customer service are few and relatively minor.

I already cut the back of a TPU case that I don't really use anymore. For a rough fit, it looks and works pretty good. I will get the edges cleaned up soon enough. The battery back is exposed, of course, but there is protection all around the sides/corners, and there is a lip that is raised 1mm or so from the screen. I imagine if I had a repeat performance of last night's drop with this solution, my phone would have had no symptoms.

That sounds pretty nice actually. Its a good idea, to just use a case and custom fit it for that extended battery.
Instead of finding an extended case and making the phone slightly bigger than it already is.

Well, I managed to turn a black TPU case in to what is essentially the Evo equivalent of the bumper cases for the iPhone4. I can't say that it looks perfect, but the flaws aren't that noticeable when looking directly at it and barely noticeable when you aren't paying attention. The main this is, I have an extended battery on my phone, protection around the sides and corners, and a small lip around the screen to keep it protected if it gets dropped.

I can try to get some pictures up later if anyone is interested.

That's rough. I've done this a couple times but I was lucky enough to have the backside hit the ground. I have the Barely There case and it was able to absorb the shock.
