Would Google+ with instant upload enabled be an option you'd consider? That way your pics taken with the camera are in the cloud. I also have my pics all uploaded to Picasa. Then they show up in the gallery even after a wipe of the phone because they aren't actually housed on the phone.

If you have a Windows PC then the quickest and easiest way is to connect your GNex via USB and us drag and drop through windows explorer. Your GNex will appear as another drive/partition called "Galaxy Nexus" -> click on it -> then click on DCIM folder and copy entire folder to a directory/folder of your choice in your Windows PC. Do the same for any other photos folders on your GNex, e.g. "Pictures" if there is one. This is much quicker than any WiFi sync with Google+. When you're done with your flash/factory reset then just copy the photos back.

Ahhh, I may have misunderstood his intent. I thought he was looking for an ongoing, automatic solution to pic storage. If all you want to do is get your pics to a safe place for a one time event, then the above solution is much faster as mentioned.
