K-9 Mail lovers ... !!!WARNING!!!

using k9 religously. works well except for lacking ability to select multiple messages for deletion. I know this is on the list.

Is there anyway to contact them directly. I have a big issue where many times I try to open a file, say pdf, jpg, or doc, and it will give me an error message saying , 'there is no app for that, or something like that.' If I reboot phone, sometimes it will work again. I tried to post this up to them, but it seems like linux, there are a bunch of people working onthis app, not just a single developer?

Also, how do you find out what version. No about in menus?

ok. i see i have 2000. noticed that all versions inbetween are not 'featured' releases, they don't put those up on the marketplace.

With the newest beta 2391 you can (in Settings) turn on message selection and then multi-select and delete (or mark read). The 2391 has some other new features that I am still playing with. I haven't tried it yet, but the change log indicates improvements in handling attachments. So this version seems to have some capabilities that the last version I was running (2109); but it is a bit flaky:
* Notification of new messages has a bad count
* Setting some of the options was difficult (they would not 'stick'). I am still not sure what caused them to start setting ok.

Ok, well running the newest version all seems to be working GREAT. Now to throw a wrench into the equation.... anyone trying to run a comcast account via POP? IMAP works great as long as I don't check mail with my PC, just wondering if there is a better way then telling the computer not to remove the mail from the server when it pulls it

Umm ... yea . . . I'll get on that right away. :D

Here's their current icon.

Is that a robot dog with a titanium head and a gold collar encrusted in rubies?

p.s. did you get my message?

That is not just any robot dog! That is K-9! Faithful robotic dog to the Doctor of BBC's Doctor Who. His collar is not gold encrusted with rubies (would be pretty classy for a robotic dog though) but a collar something more akin to a Scottish Tartan.

Doctor; "K-9 come here boy."
K-9; "Yes Mas-ter!"
Doctor; "good dog."

Much respect to anyone who read that in their heads in the right voices.

In the 2391 RC you can finally select multiple messages for deletion by dragging the icon to the left of the message to put a check mark in it -- which will bring up the delete, etc. option boxes on the bottom of the screen

I am running a Comcast email account via POP using 2391 and it seems to be working fine.

I can get the emails no problem, what I can't do is use it like a true POP account.
Meaning if I delete from the server it deletes from my phone so its running as an IMAP account.

Hmmm. All of my POP apps for phones have always worked that way. I have had a WinMo phone, an LG Dare feature phone using Verizon Mobile Email, and the Droid using both K-9 and the standard Email app and they all work that way. Once you delete the email from the server it's gone from the phone. It's only my PC clients that don't behave that way.

as much as I hate for these words to come out of my mouth..... My storm could do it.

aaaaaaahhhhhhhhh now I feel ill and need to punch myself in the crotch and drink bleach to get that rancid taste out of my mouth.

Go into your Gmail account settings. You'll see by default, it sets up your Gmail account as an IMAP account. :( (I'll bet that's the way your account is setup.) Instead, use the manual method to setup your Gmail account. I think that'll give you what you're looking for.

Incoming: pop.gmail.com (995) SSL
Outgoing: smtp.gmail.com (465) SSL

Has anyone gotten K-9 mail to work with an exchange account? The native app works but doesn't render html e-mail very well. Touchdown did a great job but I don't want to pay $20 to get better looking e-mail.

Any thoughts?

Man, that made my day!

To keep on topic, I was really pressing them for multiple delete. Glad to hear it's there, but I am going to wait for real 2400, which I think will probably go thru the market?

BTW, how do you install an afk program?

There are several app installers ... in fact, one is called "AppInstaller". :D

I think ASTRO even has one built-in. Can't remember. I just click on them and they ask if I want to install. Can't remember what app is responsible for what anymore. :D

exterminate! Exterminate! Must exterminate the doctor!
God I love me some doctor who!!! David Tennant is the best incarnation of the doctor!!!

I tried K9 a week or so back. I uninstalled it because it wouldn't work with our *really* weird exchange setup at work. And neither would Touchdown.

Messenger 13: Astro *does* have an app installer.

I tried K9 ages ago, but it wouldn't show all my folders from my btinternet account, only the inbox. I've tried a few different mail clients since, but none of them seemed as good as K9 so I've now come back to it and will persevere with it for a while longer. I do like most of it's features, and looking through the enhancement list, there's quite a few good things in the pipeline.

Does anyone know how to get it to show all folders?

And about the icon - K9 was Dr Who's dog and that's where the icon comes from...

I always thought the k-9 Mail icon was weird, but apparently never really looked at it until this thread. Now i think it's great!

I'm also glad Messenger started this thread, as I noticed the multi-select disappeared, and thought I had lost my mind, as I didn't recall any k-9 updates...lol

How do i go about updating to the latest version from the website, if it's not in the market? I lnow that's a noob question, but I have not done much with my Droid except install a few programs and use it as a phone and GPS.

Go to Downloads - k9mail - Project Hosting on Google Code on your phone and select the latest build.

Or use aTrackDog to track updates for all your apps, which gives you the option to update from the market or the developer website.
