Root Kaos Froyo v30 Gallery App

Giving it a second shot. So far its been ok. Took a half hour and 4 reboots before I got it stable. That does not include the 2 reboots it did by itself.

Also...

Anyone have a suggestion for a replacement for the gallery app in 2.2. It is really slow and sucks. It is visually pleasing but I want to set a wallpaper quickly and not wait 5 min for it cache all my images.

Appreciate any suggestions.

At this point however I do see myself going back to xtr... just no comparison speed wise but I am going to give it a few days solid testing.

Honestly it's actually faster for me compared to the previous versions. After the 10 times I rotated it, it only bugged out on me once. Kaos has said he is constantly improving it to work better.

Well the problem with the 3D Gallery is that if you click on the tiny thumbnail of a picture in the camera app and go back to the camera app, your phone becomes unresponsive and you have to do a battery pull.

For the most part I still use Camera Magic (Love that digital zoom) and I set an activity shortcut on my dock for the camcorder (Launcher pro specific)

no, you have to uninstall the other one first

how do you go about uninstalling the default 3d gallery? In the app manager the uninstall button for it is locked/unclickable. I'm not sure how else to go about uninstalling a native Kaos app.

Thanks.

TitaniumBackup is the easiest way. RootExplorer will also do the job.

Anyone know how to rename the folders in the gallery? Also the geotag location or whatever it is under the folder names is way off on mine.

Well... I was happy with the simple gallery apk, but when I'm trying to change wallpaper or create a photo frame widget, it won't let me view pictures in their folders and I have to choose the image from a big list of a few thousand images. What's worse... I tried to switch back to my titanium backup of the original gallery, and I can't restore it! Anybody got anything better? Seems like my only option now is to move forward until the next version of Kasofroyo....

Not that I should have to wait for too long...

I'd just flash V30 over without a wipe. That should bring back the 3D Gallery app, I'd think.

many thanks for that gallery.apk

would be really great if someone can make a hack for the "htc sense gallery" because this is the best gallery app

i really hate this fu..ing Android stock 3d gallery it is slow and buggy, if you have more then 500 pictures on your sdcard 3d gallery can not handle this.

I probably have around 700 pics in my 3d gallery and it runs pretty well now. The trick was to let it build its thumbnail cache by leaving it open and watching all the thumbnails load. That process was brutal and probably took an hour of me passively looking at my phone and keeping it awake. But the cache on the SD card has been persistent through a variety of Froyo ROMS and I haven't had to rebuild it (except for when I wiped it out with Cache Cleaner). If you're constantly importing huge events (sorry, I speak Mac), then you might have troubles.
