Root Keeping Root Method and Question

Hello again,

I have recently rooted my Bionic and have a couple questions. First, I saw a method on another forum that gave a few lines you type into Root Explorer to keep root through system updates on Motorola devices. Here it is:

go to /system/bin/
open in text editor - mount_ext3.sh
add the following lines to the very bottom

chmod 4755 /system/bin/su
chmod 4755 /system/xbin/su
chmod 755 /system/app/Superuser.apk

I used R3L3AS3DRoot and 43V3R to root the phone and when I went into Root Explorer, all three lines were there but the last line read:
chmod 4755 /system/app/Superuser.apk

So I deleted the 4 so it matched the above method.

Everything has been working fine and I have root in .893, but I am wondering if I should have done that or left the line as it was. Any suggestions as to if I should keep it as is, or go back and put the 4 back in?

Also, I put the app OTA Root Keeper on my phone. Is this a good way to help keep root on the Bionic? Call me paranoid, but I want to get everything right before ICS (or any other update) is pushed to the phone.

Thanks

Either way works. In that line the 4 is not important

Hey thanks dfib, I appreciate it.

tehsusenoh, I'm not sure I follow what you are suggesting. I am already rooted...it's just that I messed with the code a bit after the forever root and wanted to make sure it would not have any negative effects down the road. Everything seems alright though.

So does anyone on here use the OTA Root Keeper app too?

Thanks

Whoops, so you've already done the mod. Nevermind then.

OTA root keeper app? Linky?

OTA root keeper app? Linky?

lol, it's a free app in the market.

FYI, I have come a long way the past few days and have even tried out Eclipse 2.0. I reverted back though using my bootstrap backup, as I rely on Verizon Visual Voicemail heavily and I noticed a few kinks...looks cool though. This is a great forum to learn a lot in a short time.

Oh, this one? OTA RootKeeper

I like this about it too:

A bonus feature is present, allowing you to un-root your device while keeping a su backup.
This way you can make root "disappear"... until you choose to restore it via this app without further complications.
This nifty feature work on every rooted device.

** Temporary un-root statement **

This feature is designed for dev purposes in order to test their app with or without root.
The goal here is not to encourage stupid and unacceptable behaviors by movie or content sells trying to prevent you to purchase or watch digital media you purchased if your device is rooted.
