Keeping unlimited data

CBCS

Newbie
I recently purchased a used GNEX off Swappa and I'd like to give my Bionic to my sister. She's currently using a droid X. Will she lose unlimited data by activating my Bionic?

She should not but make sure they don't bully her.

Talked to a verizon employee in the store today and he said she would lose it. But based off some other things he told me he doesn't seem to be the brightest bulb. Just wanted to see what the consensus was here, so I'll know how hard to fight them on it.

The thing about it is that she's going from a 3G phone, to a 4G. A 4G phone requires a sim card and I guess has to be set up differently in their system. So I don't know how that will affect it, but it would probably be the reason for losing unlimited data, if it did.

This question has come up a few times, I have been trying to find a definite answer but haven't yet. I am thinking you will keep you unlimited because Verizon has never publically specified otherwise. Because changing between 3G and 4G phones while on contract is unrestricted.

Here's the scoop straight from my verizon store rep, he's usually straight up with me and gives me the inside scoop.

According to him: If you have unlimited data you keep it, there is nothing they can do about that... UNTIL you upgrade your phone. Now, here's the tricky part: If you're upgrading from 3g to 3g your unlimited stays, if you're going from 3g to 4g and want to keep your unlimited that's when they're going to get you by saying "LTE Unlimited is no longer available."

So you can still keep your grandfathered unlimited plan, just not on 4g. I'm lucky enough that I slid in right before this all happened... I got my GNex about two months ago and I am still good to go on my truly unlimited plan (same with my mom, she has some other samsung 4g phone), and thats when that guy told me if I had waited until july to upgrade my phone I would lose the unlimited data.

So I guess I was one of the lucky last ones... i'm interested to see what they do for loyal (5+ year) customers who have had unlimited since the beginning and they try to kick them off, i'll bet its not going to be pretty.

Just got back from Verizon. The same guy I spoke with yesterday helped us and it seems as if she was able to keep unlimited data. He said her plan hadn't changed and he didn't even mention tiered/shared data so I believe she skated by.

Same thing happened to my brother in law. You lucked out, he was stuck getting the 2gb/month plan. Im wondering if I should take this plan as verizon has been calling me about switching to a new data tiered plan. I have unlimited data though i use well under 2gb /month. Is it worth saving the $10 and have hotspot or stay unlimited and not worry?

Answer this. Do you think in 13 months you will be using less or more data? I have 3gb on att and use less than 2. That's only because I don't stream video or audio as I used to. If I had unlimited I would easily use 5gb a month. I have a Verizon account that's on military hold. I will activate it only if they let me keep unlimited data. I'm not going to pay $30 for 2gb and definitely not $50 for 1gb. I'll just get a prepaid sim without any data. Having data is nice but its not a must have on a smart phone as the carriers try to tell us.

Be sure to let us know if she got to keep it or not when she gets her first bill. I've seen instances where people were told they could keep it but it wasn't the case when the bill showed up.

The issue with getting off unlimited, and why VZW is forcing us (as much as they can) the writing is on the wall.

netflix, hbogo, hulu, streaming music.

In a year most people will be using 3-5 gb. by forcing into a 2gb plan (shared no less)...

they can start reaming folks again like they did with txt messages for all those years.

I definitely will. She's on a plan with her husband and he has unlimited as well. I would have expected them to ask her how much data she wanted if she'd been moved to tiered data.

I waited too long to upgrade. Was about to pull the trigger on a gnex today and saw that I would have 2gb instead of unlimited. Now it appears my choices are to accept a tiered plan or live with my antique Eris. I use very little data now but that is because I can't do much with my current phone. It seems like they want us to store all our content in the cloud and stream it. That will increase data usage. I'm a little afraid to see how much data I would use with a fancy phone.

Have you considered our classifieds, eBay or Swappa for a gently used 4G phone? Just to see what your data usage does?
