Help Keis not recognising S2

Evening all, Just bought my S2 today and so far so good.

However, I cant get it to connect to Keis.

When connecting via a USB, the phone says connected, yet Keis doesnt find it.

Is this a known issue? How can I overcome it?

I have all my contacts saved in Outlook 2003 and dont fancy typing them all in manually to my S2

HELP!!! :)

Maybe try updating Kies? It is a bit flaky for me on Vista. Bluetooth (if you have it on your PC) is maybe another route to explore for a connection.

upon loading kies. . .and the phone is connected.. what does it shows? can you see anything like "connecting"? or none? if none.. maybe the samsung usb feature is dead. . . try checking :

My Computer
Properties
Device Mgr.
then look for the samsung usb cable etc.. name. probably you can see a yellow bubble with black exclamation point.. uninstall it.. then reconnect your phone/cable again. .

No luck with either solution im afraid

I have installed the latest version of Keis from samsung.com
Checked device manager

Yet in Keis all I see under Connected Devices is "connecting" followed by a message saying "cannot start the service on the device, please disconnect and try again"

Have you enabled USB de-bugging at any time to be able to mount the drives to your computer? If you have this will prevent Keis from working. Sometimes apps you install request this feature to be able to work and you may have not realised what is actually happening?

Anyway, I had this problem and it fixed it for me:

Settings>Applications>Development>USB Debugging - make sure it is off.

Then disconnect and reconnect with Keis, it also does take quite a bit of time to find the device.

Hope this helps

Steve

I also have this problem since installing the latest edition of kies. The S2 shows as connecting and after a period it times out saying cannot get the information from GT-I9100. Have tried all the above recommendations to no avail. Anybody else experiencing this?

I had the same problem and fixed it last night by doing the following:

Downloaded latest drivers from within Kies, (tools menu i think).

Still didnt work so disconnected device and reconnected, then went into device manage and found the item with the exclamation mark and right clicked on it and uninstalled. Disconnected device again and reconnected and then the driver installed fine and Kies can now see my phone.

Running win7 64bit.

Hope that helps.

Steve1401 - debugging is off, thanks for the suggestion

Spewy - what do you mean? I have downloaded the latest Kies software from Samsung, but no joy.

To update drivers go to Device Manager (assume your on Windows) which can be found in Control Panel. Once open, look for your GS2 which is plugged into the USB, right click and choose update driver software.

I really don't think this should be necessary, but you could give it a go.

Also, if you have mroe than one USB port on your computer, try plugging into a different one...

To be honest it's Kies - it's pretty widely agreed that it a pile of pants. The only reason I ever plug in with it is to check firmware updates. Everything else is slow and generally poorly thought out imo.

This doesn't help you in your quest though, just thought I would mention it :-) Good luck...

Working again - plugged another device into the port I was using for GS2, then plugged the GS2 back in and woo hoo - connected and firmware updated.

Looks like the new version of Kies is now working. I'm able to connect and pull in my Outlook contacts, schedule and notes on vista via USB.

But not outlook mail.

I have connection problems also on my 64-bit win7 PC. Got serious probs trying to update it. Almost ****ed it up. On my 32-bit Vista PC everything worked fine. Had the same issues with a SE X10i.

I've tried all the methods suggested and it doesn't work. It worked once or twice when I uninstalled & reinstalled the driver via device manager, but now it's back to not working. I'm also on Win 7 64-bit, but this is ridiculous. I love this phone, but how can an multi-billion dollar company like Samsung with there hottest selling phone not get this right?! At least I'll give kudos to Apple for making syncing the iphone easy as cake with itunes. C'mon Samsung, let's go already.

You are on the home screen on the S2 aren't you? If you in an application or off the home screen it doesn't connect.

I'm also having the same problem. I've tried most of the suggested fixes I can find online but have come to a complete dead end. Since the new Android update for the S2 is coming soon i'd like to be able to get this working! Anyone made any further progress on fixing?

Just tried this and it didnt make any difference. Kies just sits on 'Connecting' for absolutely ages then gives the message 'Cannot start service on the device. Please disconnect then reconnect the device.

nothing here either. I'm running Win 7 64 bit and have tried every single suggestion out there and none work! I'm truly beginning to hate this phone!
