Root Kernal Advice

Like the title states I am seeking some advice on selecting a kernel, currently I am running adrynalyne's Super Clean .4 for DL09 and DJ05_Dl09 kernel. The only reason I am running this kernel is to keep clockwork. I am looking for improved battery life, and not quite ready to venture in to Voodoo land. All I am looking for is a something UV and non-Voodoo. I was looking at geekniks stupidfast is this even compatible with dl09?

1. Being that I am running superclean does this limit my choices?

2. Are all kernels installed the same way?

3. If I change my mind and want to start over with a new ROM, kernel, etc., is there a certain order or process to do this?

Thanks in advance.

#1 no
#2 yes
#3 nope other than its best to wipe data/cache for rom, only cache for kernel.

As for the kernel you are looking for look in one stop shopping for kernels by saps. It sounds like you are looking for a non voodoo by imnuts, just a suggestion.

Thanks, I looked in the thread by saps and was a little overwhelmed by all of the choices! The more I look at it the more it makes sense. I think I will give imnuts_25_nonvoodoo a try and see how that works. When I loaded the dl09 kernel I don't remember clearing the cache. Is this done after the initial reboot?

Yea it sometimes will be ok, but its best practice when you first go into clockwork just clear cache before doing anything in there.

Makes sense now.;)

Now a new question... The more I read on voodoo 5 the less frighting it seems. If I am understanding this correctly voodoo changes the file writing system from Samsung's system to the aosp system, which makes it more efficient. As long as the directions are followed it seems pretty safe to install, and if I do fat finger something I can still flash to stock in odin. Once I have voodoo5 is there anything special I need to do or just enjoy? Also once I have voodoo5 flashing between other voodoo5 kernels is safe and easy?

Sorry to be a bother, but hate making mistakes!

(1) Just make sure you always use Red Clockwork
(2) Yes

Also, I'd suggest clearing dalvik as well as cache before you flash stuff.

Alright I am going with voodoo. Imnuts 100 looks inviting. Thanks for the clarifications. Wish me luck!

Good idea... voodoo seems scary, but its really not at all. Make sure to flash a kernel that has "voodoo sound" implemented. If you do, you can take advantage of the free (or paid version) voodoo control app in the market. When listening to music through headphones it makes the music so much better! Enjoy!

All went well I now have voodoo5 successfully installed, thanks for the help everyone!!!
Good luck. :D its really simple for the most part you really don't need luck. Flashes all the same. Just listen for voices
I read one is only supposed to hear the voice once, she spoke five times. FWIW

Got it, will mess with that one tomorrow!

And again...best practice is to have the android sdk and adb set up before any major root undertaking
Thanks, after reading how many times you have suggested it to others, I made sure I had sdk and adb setup before I rooted a few weeks ago just in case.

I was scared of voodoo, but now I'll never go back. JT's new 1/23 is amazing. Battery life, speed, and functionality - this has been my fav so far
