Root Kernel for MikG

drose101

Lurker
Hey I'm new to rooting...

I recently rooted an EVO 4g and flashed the MikG 3.11 ROM. I wanted to learn the whole deal about kernels:
1) How to install/flash them? (Can you do it directly through the phone without connecting to a computer?)
2) What are best options for compatibility with MikG 3.11? (What are the benefits of each option too?)

Thanks

First, welcome to the forums.
Second here is some good info on Kernels... [REF][TWEAKS] Kernel Governors, Modules, I/O Schedulers, CPU Tweaks, AIO App Configs - xda-developers

Third, to flash kernels, make sure you have a sense kernel for a sense rom such as the MikG you have.
To flash kernels, download direct to phone, or as I do, to computer then transfer to sd card.
Boot into recovery, wipe cache and dalvik cache, flash kernel.
An extra step I personally do before reboot is wipe again, cache/dalvik.
Let the kernel run for a few days before judging it good or bad.
I ran Anthrax kernel when on MikG....
Directory listing for www.androidfilehost.com/main/EVO_4G_Developers/Chad.Goodman/KERNELS/
I also tried some of the sbc kernels by ca1ne but none seemed to play nice with my phone. When I find a link to those I will post them for ya.

:)
Edit: found it
[KERNEL][WIP] Classic Sense Kernel v1.4 [JUN 14 2012][GINGERBREAD][SENSE]
There is so much info about kernels I could write a book, so I will find more informative links if you wish.

No problem, just remember kernels act differntly on different phones so what worked for me may not work for you but you can always change.
So, try the Anthrax Kernel first, it's highly recommended with MikG.
Flash the 004.zip one.
The last kernel I listed has sbc (superior battery charging) baked in, but, be patient as a new Mason kernel with sbc will be out for sense.
Mason is the best kernel for sbc I've heard and read.
So run with Anthrax a while then try the last kernel I listed but I think you will be happy with Anthrax...:)

Thanks once again.

I flashed the kernel and everything seems to be running fine.

Here are a few more questions:

1) What's the best kernel to run with MikG 3.11 for battery improvements?
2) Are there any other "root" ways to improve battery? (On MikG 3.11)
3) What's the best rom/kernel combo for best performance?

Regards

Kernels alone will not help with battery...Many other factors affect battery life including but not limited to, backlight settings, internet/data usage, background sync settings, screen on/off times, etc.
Yes kernels can help to a certain extent, especially in conjunction with an app like setcpu. you can set the phone to over/underclock, set governers, etc but thats a different thread:)
The best rom/kernel combo? It varies phone/user, to phone/user.
I ran MikG for 4 months....loved it.
Now I run Decks Reloaded....love it more imho.
Run that kernel a few days.
I also use Juice Defender...
I can turn off radios for "x" amount of time, saving battery.
Check it out:)

Maybe when you're using the caine kernel, your phone doesn't like to be undervolted by 75, just a thought;)
