I am just curious. What kernels/ROMS everyone is running? Also rom manager was a dirty word on the prevail. Anyone use that for this phone?

Running CM10 and ROM Manager is preloaded. Just opened it up and it seemed to be similar to a CWM that runs in .apk form. I didn't 'use' it though.

If the CyanogenMod team thinks it is safe, it probably is.

How do you like CM10? I am currently running rooted with AGAT 0.5.4 I do like ICS, Hello having kernel with debug enabled would be nice...

I've heard tale in the xda forums that rom manager has the potential to brick this phone, but I've never used it so I didn't look into it really. Just be cautious

Overall I love CM10. Many great features including a built in CPU under-clock in settings.

My issues:

No Swype keyboard- beta downloadable at Swype | Type Fast, Swype Faster
No Touchwiz clock- I bought the $.25 HD-Widgets
No task manager- still resolving. long pressing home key brings up recent apps, not sure if this closes them if they are still running

It was well known that ROM Manager (app) would brick the Prevail. With CM10 I will be cautious but expect it to be safe and tested by the CM10 development team.

Hey. Just got my phone yesturday :) am a transplant from the warp. I just wanted to let you know that my phone came pre-installed with swype, just took me a minute to figure out how to change it to the default keyboard. The setting was under language and input under settings. Also, the recent running screen that pops up when you long hold the home key does close out aps. You just have to swype them off the screen and they will be closed.

Swype is included with stock but not CM10.

I loaded re-Calked (a modified stock ROM) and did some testing on the home key close.

Music player did not properly close by the long-press home and swipe method, it normally showed open still in Task Manager. My guess would be if music player doesn't close, there would be more apps.

I still would like CM10 to have stock Task Manager if anyone has a link.

Can I use any EPIC TOUCH kernel on my boost sgs2? So I use the AGAT 0.54 kernel to get initial root? Then flash different epic touch kernel if I choose. How do I tell which kernel goes with which rom? THANK YOU

This is really late but yes you could have...

what r th steps to flash a rom such as blu cuban? r since its ICS, I need to flash a cingerbread kernel n rom first then to an ICS rom? Im just not sure n dont want to destroy my phone. any advive will b appreciated

Well read the devs instructions. Most roms flash a kernel with the ROM. You can ask the dev of the ROM your looking at or you can post a link to it on this thread and I'll look into it

Generally when flashing a rom you just put the zip on the sd. Boot into recovery. Do a data wipe. Clear cache and dalvik cache. Then install from zip. Once done reboot and your all Set.

But always make sure you have atleast one nandroid backup just in case!!!

No. You can brick if you use a ics "recovery". This one seems to be safe to flash ics roms like aokp and cyanogen. I used ot to flash CM9, CM10, and AOKP and it worked. Once you flash the rom it will replace the recovery though.

He isn't using stock recovery.. He has the agat kernel which has agat recovery. It's identical to cwm... In fact it's built off of it....

And the recovery you just posted needs to be flashed thru odin. He might not have known that. His question was did he need to flash a different kernel before flashing the ROM

He was asking did he need a to use a gingerbread kernel while flashing to An ics rom... The answer is no because it's going to overwrite the kernel and entire system.

Yes that need to be flashed through Odin. Thanks for pointing that out.

The way I understood the question was if it was needed to flash a GB rom Before and ICS. Some people believe that going from ICS to ICS can brick. But n the AOKP thread it says not to flash with a "ICS recovery". I gave the link to that file because I've used that one and its known to be a safe recovery, at least for those roms. That's what I've read at least and I've used it. It come with CWM recovery v5. I don't think you should flash it with v6.
