Kernels without BLN

Hawker

Android Expert
When deciding on whether or not to try out a kernel, BLN is the first pre-requisite I consider. There are a few around that do not support this. Most do, but some (eg stock, cf-root kernels, speedmod to name but a few) do not.

However, is it just not a case to keep a copy of /system.lib/hw/lights.GT-I100.so from a BLN supported kernel and copy this in place?

If it works, it would basically open up all kernels for people like myself
I think Sydney Speedmod would appreciate this.

I might give this a try.

No, looks like there is a little more to it. I shall dig deeper....

If you can achieve this you shall have god-like status!

The kernel still has to be compiled to load the module, even if it's installed.

Then perhaps something could be included in the init.d scripts to load the module instead slug?

I'll do some digging anyway.

Thanks mate

Code:
insmod <path>/lights.GT-I100.so

should work from a terminal, either on the handset or a PC via adb shell. I'm not sure if the same command is used in scripts, though.
