Keyboard Input methods

So when messing around with Swype the other day I noticed that you can change the keyboard types to 'QWERTY' 'Phone Keypad' and 'Compact QWERTY'.

Since I suck at using Swype and I came from a Blackberry pearl with sure type. I switched my keyboard type to Compact Qwerty. The keys are much larger using 2 letters per key, which is great for people like me with big hands.
Now I can type so fast on this baby it still auto corrects and everything.

To change at your home screen press menu > Settings > Language & Keyword > Touch Input > Keyboard Types.

Hope this helps some who just hasn't gotten use to the onscreen default keyboard.

It's funny, I tried "compact" when I first got the phone (coming from SureType, also) and I couldn't use it at all.

Switched to Swype and have been flying ever since ;)

Interesting.. I have tried using swype for extended periods of time still suck at it..
I blaze on Compact Qwerty though..

Must be how my brain interprets the keyboard or something.. lol

If you don't like swype there also a program called "swiftkey" I tried before I became a swype slave myself :P

I liked it I think it offered better word completion and spell shecking etc then the stock.

Thanks Crash gonna have to look that up. In the meantime I am going to mess around with txtspeed and see how fast I type with each. (Nevermind this app only works with Physical keyboards)

Thanks for pointing that out to me. I like compact QUERTY a lot.
What does the "xt9" and "abc" key on the left hand side mean?

Downloaded mytxtspeed. First attempt on normal online challenge was 22.8 words per minute.
Curious what you swype guys rank?

Hobie.. xt9 is the predicitive text, and abc means you have to tap each key how ever many times to get the letter you want. So like for W you would have to hit the QW key twice. Where as with xt9 you just type it and it will figure out the words you typed based on what letters you used.

My opinion after trying them all....

HTC Sense > Swiftkey > Better Keyboard > Stock Android 2.1 > Swype > Thicker Buttons

Odlay,
Thank you very much. the XT9 works pretty good for me. Now i will have to follow your lead and try mytxtspeed.
Thanks again.
