Help Keyboard lock up

My keyboard locks up whenever I use a comma, question mark or exclamation point, and I have to restart my phone to fix the problem, I think the keyboard app might've bugged out or something. Any suggestions?
 
My phone has also begun to lock up, however it seems to only be when i press the period/decimal button multiple times. And it doesnt necessarily lock up, but the keyboard screen will not go awsay. I can still long press the HOME key and it will pull up the recent apps, and then the BACK key will work to exit that back to the keyboard, where the only thing that i can do is either long press the HOME button, or press the power button. I too have to then shut the phone down and bring it back up in order to get

I do not have nay new apps since the OS update....

any help or ideas yet??
 
If your keyboard is locking up try clearing the data/cache for the Multi-touch keyboard app then reboot. Menu >settings >applications >manage applications >press the "all" tab then scroll down to Multi-touch keyboard, press it and press clear data and clear cache (it it's an option).
 
thanks for the quick response, i just did it and so far so good. I hope that it isn't something that i have to do often though.

If it does happen again try clearing the data/cache without rebooting. Have you considered trying a different keyboard? Swype does not lock up at all and it is already installed on your phone.
 
I tried swype for a couple of days, and it was still weird for me. I liked it for txting and such, but not so much for typing up longer emails for work.

If this continues, i guess i'll give it another go. Thanks again!

To be honest I tried Swype when I first got my X last July and I absolutely hated it, I couldn't understand why people liked it. I used it for a few days and went back to the stock keyboard. After a while I decided to give it another try and after a week or so I loved it and would never want to be stuck with a regular keyboard again. It definitely takes some getting used to but if you give it time you'll love it.
 
I just started having this problem last night. I have no cache to clear. If I clear the data what "data" is cleared? I don't really want to lose anything that might be saved in that data. Can anyone clear up what the "data" is?

I copied my reply to someone else....If your keyboard is locking up try clearing the data/cache for the Multi-touch keyboard app then reboot. The data is just app data for the keyboard and will not mess up your phone when you delete it.
