Root Keytones went quiet

The audible notes that accompany key presses while dialing have dropped in volume to almost nothing. I am running Mikfroyo 4.4. This happened a while back, around a month ago, and I can't get the volume back up. Everything else is working just great!

Is there some hidden setting or way I can fix this without a complete wipe?

the tones from dialing numbers is controlled by "System Volume." Android doesn't give you control over system volume. There are a few ways to fix your problem:

1) run the Google Navigation app. That app sets system volume to max when you exit it. For whatever reason, your current ROM has set the system volume to something low.

2) download an app/widget called audiomanager (free version). That app gives you a slider for System Volume so you can set it to whatever you want.

I also recommend as a companion to audiomanager an app called Volume Locker. This app remembers your volume settings and warns you when other apps try to change them. You can either accept the change or ignore. If you ignore the warning, volume locker automatically restores your volume to what you had it at before. Great for preserving volume settings for notifications, alarms, etc.

The tip about running the Google Nav app did the trick. Thanks, man.
