Help Kies Update : MTP Driver Failed to Install

Mark_s

Newbie
Hi Guys,
My First post go easy.
Kies was working great version Kies_2.0.0.11044_11_3
I received the prompt about a new update : Kies_2.0.2.11071_128_2
And it was then i got the prompt about the MTP Driver not being installed.
Kies says connecting constantly, The Phone says connected ?

So i had a dig around, found the following thread.
http://androidforums.com/samsung-ga...-galaxy-s-i9000-mtp-application-crashing.html

But the video isnt exactly what's happening on my phone.
It is an Mtp problem does anyone know if its compatible with the S2 ? That Fix.

Its more at the pc side of things. The Driver eventually installed correctly and prompted me to re-boot. I did and then it fails again and again.
I've made best effort to un install the drivers.
But after closer investigation i'm getting against the Drivers
Device failed to start Error code (10)

I'm running win 7 Pro 64
With Kies_2.0.2.11071_128_2

I have tried to re-install the earlier version but that also fails.
so i'm curious if anyone can advise how to clear out the Drivers.
O yeh i un installed the Samsung usb driver too. as that was in the programs to un install list.

Kies air works without issue.

Thanks in advance for any help assistance.

Mark

UPDATE :

I have installed the New Kies at work and it went in no problem.
So that's the Phone OK

win 7 pro 64bit

But all the music i have is at home :(

Kies is extremely hit+miss, albeit more miss than hit!
It works almost all of the time on my laptop at home, but I have rarely got it to work on my work's PC.

I find it can succeed on a slightly more regular basis if you plug in the cable, wait for windows to prompt on opening the device (ie. look at the files via explorer). Once this is open, open up the Phone folder and minimize. If this folder remains open for any length of time then you have a chance. Then open Kies. As long as the Windows Explorer window is still open then you will probably find Kies finds the device. If explorer automatically closes that window, then you can give up on Kies, so close it down, and try unplugging+repeating.

Give this a few attempts, and if it fails each time then more drastic action is required:

Open up device manager then plug in the cable. You may find that the device list refreshes every second or two and the device does not get added. This indicates a problem:
1. Uninstalling Kies
2. run program files\samsung\usb drivers\uninstall.exe (this does not get done on a Kies uninstall), 3. reboot
4. remove the Samsung folder from Program Files.
5. If you want to be even more thorough, run a CCleaner on the registry, and if your confident, remove anything that references program files\samsung in the registry.
6. Reboot then reinstall Kies.
7. Plug in your GS2 again and pray!

I usually find doing this works, BUT it seems it doesnt last very long, as a few connections later, it can then fail.

Personally I think there is a problem with Kies USB driver, particularly when other USB devices are connected.

I'm Going to take the USB cable from work home.
And also plug it in direct and not via a extension cable.
I think i have the original cable at work and the one at home a purchase via ebay.
With this one at work its a much better fit. No Chunky end that makes it connect on a slight angle. Worth a try any ways.

Thanks for your feedback it all helps.

Its Now working like a Charm ?

What's Different ?
In work i updated the firmware via kies
But what i think it is it is i'm using the original skinny USB lead that fits sung into the phone not like the little block version i have from ebay.

So happy days :)

What's Different ?

Was there a full moon? A "Y" in the month? A butterfly passed wind in Australia?

I got the same error message about the MPT driver two days ago - after two attempts the driver loaded correctly on the third. Same cable, permanently attached to the same USB port, no settings changed on the handset.... no problem before or since. It's one of Life's great mysteries. :)

i have the same problem ever since i updated my kies to the latest version 2.3.0.12035_16_4. Now the MTP driver just does not install even after following the following instructions from the link [Solution / Tutorial for Galaxy S i9000] MTP Application crashing
and also other instructions from around the net!
1) tried deleting samsung entirely from my drive including drivers and rebooted and then reinstalled. no hope!
2) tried deleting all files with 16 characters from phone memory and sd card. still no hope!
3) installed all drivers successfully via usb debugging mode and then after that i disabled usb debugging and connected it says MTP driver successfully installed but i have to restart my pc. when i restart it says MTP drivers installing and then it fails!!!!!! kies keeps saying connecting..........

Same results at home (vista) and work (win 7 pro)!!!
whats happening?????

Hello I had this problem too and i tried everything. Nothing seemed to work and i was getting really frustrated. For some reason i had 2 usb wires and i didn't realise but when i used the other one it worked perfectly. the other one still wont work so maybe there's a break in the cable or something. There were both genuine wires so wasn't that. Hope it helps

Had this problem and tried everything I could find online. Nothing worked. Disconnected all other usb devices, reconnected my Note 2 and Voila, it worked. Plugged in the other devices and it kept working. Left other devices plugged in, disconnected and reconnected Note 2, still working. I should know to try the very simplest things first. I never learn that.
