KitKat Confirmed for Droid Razr M (official)

My wife and I both have Verizon Razr M's. Yesterday they updated to KitKat on their own. I have had KitKat for a while on my Nexus 10 tablet so I knew of a few of the changes (the white wifi icon with no change of color to indicate connection).

A couple thinks I like so far: 1) It seems to run faster and apps open/close faster. 2) Icons seem more crisp and vibrant in colors. But really it is just cosmetic stuff. 3) I like the way the text messaging looks now.

Annoyances though make me longing for the previous version. 1) As mentioned the white wifi/4G icons with no indication via color change for a good connection. 2) LED color changes to white (no big deal I guess but still "why?") 3) Far and away the worst thing though is the unlock screen. There is no volume switch to directly take the phone to silent or vibrate. And now you don't have the four unlock choices. I used to be able to unlock straight to a text or email. Now it simply unlocks to the main screen, although there is a camera unlock option with a side swipe also. The new unlock screen is horrible.

I dont like it either. I dont like the white boxes for text messages. I dont like the white wifi. or the white LED. or the layout of the alarms now. I just dont like it. :( Whats supposed to be better about this update anyways?

After making several phone calls since the update, I can tell you what has seriously improved ... that is the clarity of the voice on the other end of the line. Both my wife's and my Razr M phones have never had the greatest sound coming through the ear piece. It was always OK, but not clear crisp voice like you would get on say a land line. But I have made several calls on my phone now and it is a HUGE improvement. My wife made a similar comment to me about this.

So while some things with the update are a bit annoying, the "phone" part of the update at least seems to be a very positive move.

Agree about the unlock screen!

So when I updated my wife's Razr M to Kit Kat it seems to be experiencing some crazy battery drain. Android OS is the dominant battery killer, where it dropped off about 40 overnight doing nothing. It said that the OS was keeping the system awake for 6 hours of the 18 hours it was off the charger and deep sleep was only about 60%. Anyone else noticing stuff like this?

Did you do a Factory Data Reset after the Major system upgrade?

Immediately after a Major system upgrade the battery statistics may be skewed. See what it is like in three days.
