Screen for me is plenty bright. Really looks great. Not going to lie, it does have a bit of text halo depending on font and background color.

Heat? It heated up during ART conversion (as expected). But other than that I haven't noticed it getting a lot warmer than any other phone during use.

Battery? Jury still out. Haven't had it long enough to say yet.

My biggest issue is that on most forums 90% of the people saying it sucks and trying to talk people out of trying one, have never used it.

It's just "I saw a bad review, so it sucks. Don't buy it."

I am really prepared to return it in 14 days. But thus far it is a keeper for me.

Forum dwellers are a small fraction, so most are oblivious ;) They will see the pretty display and the spec and that is about it. Most people are light to medium users, so most will probably be happy.

The sharpness issue though needs to be fixed in an update- pronto. If you are like a few of my friends, the sharpness issue will accumulate and bug you more with use. It is artificial and hurts certain content that has the issue. Bad LG decision there.

It will be interesting to see if I see the same thing. That said, the Note 3 is one of the fastest, smoothest Android devices I have used. No lag and plays games as good as expected with current chips. Ditto for web and Flash.

I would like to hear your feedback. Before I got my G3, I could see from the early reviews, the things that would cause it to lag. That health app that I'll never use, which takes up one of the screens. The clock widget with the useless drop down animation has lag written all over it. And really all the useless animations. I switched them all to .5 speed in the dev options and use a regular slide animation for the home screen. I also disabled as much bloat as I could. Will probably root it tonight and remove it permanently.

I removed all the bloat possible on my Note 3 and I'm using the Dynamic Kat ROM. (The best ROM imo). The Note 3 is definitely fast, but not the fastest. That title belongs to the Nexus 5. But the Note 3 is a better all around device than the N5. I've only been using the G3 for a day so the jury is still out on it. I'm still in the testing stage but it has impressed me enough so far to keep it.

The lag is likely due to the UI being designed for Qhd, where other apps scale to Qhd. The 801 operates with Qhd, but not efficiently. I saw another review today touting battery life using local video as the test. Unless you are only using the device for local video, it is a bad test for battery life.

Seems a fine device for light to medium users, but heavy users might want to be careful.

Nova is AWESOME. And you can fiddle around with it and make it look like the way LG has the home screen, anyway. If things with that launcher are the same as before, that is. Best launcher ever. I even used it with the Nexus 5.

Well if you do, it's recommended you don't run OTA updates. Unless you wish to lose root and who knows what else. That's how it is with all/most phones, anyway. Besides, devs usually stay on top of updates, and they have them available a day or two after the carrier pushes them.
 
So I tried out the G3 today at AT&T and left kinda disappointed. I went ahead and installed Nova, turned off all animations, and I still was getting noticeable lag/delays compared to the G2 right next to it. The G2 was seemingly instant, where-as there was a small delay on the majority of the G3's actions. This was not just certain app or widget dependent, this was throughout.

Unless LG can issue a software fix for this, I won't be using it. It reminds me of Samsung's Touchwiz, which is exactly what I want to get away from. It won't bother everyone I'm sure, but I'm the type who turns off all animations even on my desktop and laptop because I expect instant responses. So, for me it's a deal breaker. Unfortunately, I'm assuming the AT&T G3's bootloader is locked so there's a limit to what the development side can do about it.

Ahh, but what model was it? The one with 2 or 3 gigs of RAM? Not sure what AT&T is actually offering.

Well, anyway, RAM aside, the verdict on the lag issue seems mixed. Some people have it, some don't. And those that do fix it by doing a launcher switch.

I'm wondering too if this varies from handset to handset, as some reports claim that while Korean models have the lag, many European models do not.
 
I've spent about time with the device in both ATT and Verizon stores. I absolutely see lag. App switching is where it's most noticeable. I was willing to cut it slack as I tested display models, even though new they've still been handled plenty. However I went and played with an HTC M8, which has been out for about 6 months (I'm sure the floor model isn't quite six months old but I'd wager a good deal older than the G3). Anyway, ZERO...and I mean ZERO lag. Nuttin. I was flying on that product's display model. I even tested a GS5. Mostly the same, some TW hiccups but still faster than the G3.

I am definitely underwhelmed by LG's offering.

Probably depends on what you are used to. My S4 does not lag in UI, but bloat is killed and I use NOVA in fast mode (no bling). If you are used to a device without much lag, it could stand out. At stock however, all Android devices lag.

Also, if the retail unit has the store demo bloat, that causes epic mega lag. Some have it and some do not. The more savvy store managers (all carriers) do not bother adding the demo bloat, since it DOES cause more lag and can give a bad impression of the device.

As I said, the lag thing is not everyone's problem. Those that do have the problem fixed it by switching launchers. I'm still not convinced the lag problem is based on hardware. If the problem can be solved by a launcher switch, that tells me the issue is based in the launcher, or at very most, something in the firmware in general.

I can't imagine it's hardware either, it just means LG did a poor job of optimizing the software to run on the hardware. Sure you can change launchers but what if you actually like LG's skin?
 
I went to a different store to test the G2 and G3 again today, and this is what I found:

The G3 is MUCH more responsive with ART instead of Dalvik. With ART, it's more responsive than the G2. My lag complaints are now gone -- with animations turned off now it's pretty much instant responses. Without ART, the G3 was noticeably slower than the G2.

You mean G3 with ART is more responsive than G2 with ART?
 
Overall, the g3 is a great device and it would be my daily driver, if it had a wacom digitizer. That said, I have noticed an odd lag in responsiveness.
 
I switched to ART, but can't see a difference. No lag either way for me. Really enjoying this phone. Just solid all around.
 
just got the att g3 yesterday and im coming from a nexus 5. I can tell a huge diff in speed..the g3 lags big time compared to nexus 5..enough where i might even return it in 14 days. the nexus 5 screen is brighter to at a lower setting...i do love the g3 batter and the screen size but the lag is driving me nuts

ART overall seems more placebo than real improvement. A little conceptual/benchmark improvement grossly offset by an average of 25% storage loss. Not to be crude, but a fART seems more pertinent to what it does.

I agree with this statement completely.. I've switched back and forth on several Androids and see no truly noticeable difference.

Last night I did a side by side lag test comparing my G3 to my M8 and Nexus 5. Each with its stock launcher, again, no noticeable difference with none of them producing lag of any significance, in fact frankly after very close scrutiny I didn't experience any lag.

I agree as well. I don't see much, if any lag on this phone. The software is a joy to use. A great blend of Android and very useful additions by LG. Of course no device is perfect, but LG got really close. They should be applauded for everything they got right.
