Help Lagging/Slow Samsung GS3

As far as your contacts being saved on your sim....not sure if your device is AT&T...could be but not sure.
Do you have a gmail/google account that is sync'd to your phone? If so, then they are saved in gmail.

Yes phone is ATT, and I actually believe I backed everything up when i did the update a few months ago, but I would surely do it again to be sure.

still not having any luck with my issues. Just bought a new charger today because a few times now I'll wake up in the morning for work and the phone won't be fully charged after about 5 hours of being on the charger. So hopefully the charger will take care of that problem. But phone still won't last 10 hrs before it's completely dead, even with out using it very much.

Another annoying thing I've been experiencing is when in a text message, typing a message I can't hit the . (period) key. It always hits M. Even when I do it really slow, i can hit all over around the . key but an M still shows up, I'll even hit all the way down around the return/back key. Still M or nothing shows up.

Phone still is very laggy in apps/menu's and texting. Adding photo's takes a few seconds. And once loaded in the message it takes another few seconds before anything I type shows up, if it shows up at all..

Seriously thinking of trying a hard reset and starting over fresh. Any thing else I can try before doing this?

Nah at this point id try a full reset n be careful about what apps you reinstall. Id bet its the very first thing a repair center would try followed by reflashing

Welcome. This is my first post, too.

What Frisco said should greatly improve your performance. I have an S3 with ATT as well, and had the same experience as you (overall lag, typing lag, etc.). I wiped the cache and immediately saw a jump in performance. You may also want to try a battery pull: remove the battery while the phone is on. It's somewhat like a soft reset.

Despite all of the little "tricks," though, I wasn't happy with the performance. I decided to root the phone and remove some bloatware/ATT apps. The phone was still slower than usual, which caused me to pull the trigger on installing a custom rom.

I'm currently running the stable version of CyanogenMod (CM 10.1), and I'm extremely pleased with the boost in performance and overall "cleanliness" compared to the cluttered TouchWiz look.

If you're happy with TouchWiz, I'd say stick to wiping the cache and battery pulls every few days. If you're thinking about jumping ship and trying a custom rom, give CM10 a shot. The rooting process is relatively easy and can be reversed.

Best of luck!
What phone are you using? I'm using Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini (before I used S4) with CM10.1 and the only one problem I faced is a little lag in tapping some setting or option in apps. Tapping is sometimes with, sometimes with no lag. I heard that Cyanogenmod is not working good on Samsung devices, I don't know. But really love CM10.1 too, don't want moving to CM12.1 or higher...
