Latest i9100 modems

Just what the doctor ordered old stick!

Now I can go between the unofficial, (XXLSJ), and the official, (XXLS8), to my hearts content.

Now, about that other, "special", mod for me on the new LS8.... that's 2 lots of rugby tickets, 10 pints of Guinness, Emelia Fox's mobile number... did I miss anything? ;)

Would love to know why It cannot be flashed on 4.0.4... That's because the RIL? 'Cause I always used to change modems from different versions, despite the version of android I have on the phone and never had problems

With GB and ICS, the modems/RIL's were interchangeable between the platforms. However, since JB, this does not seem to be the case inasmuch as GB and ICS modem/RIL combo's do not seem to work on JB, and visa versa. You can swap JB modem and RIL's around within JB though.

On the subject of swapping modem/RIL's around, I tested both LS6 and LS8, JB, at the Twilight Zone pub and there was no difference between them for me. Both managed to get a signal in this black hole of reception and LS8 joins my list, here. :D

Didn't know. I think perhaps it's a Ril's matter, but I'm near to change my actual ROM (which is ICS but is simply amazing) and flash some LS8, so was only my curiosity.

Thanks for the support guys, I'm pretty happy with how my phones setup. Here are my results thanks to you guys.

I wonder what the modem + RIL is like for the latest JB, UK, Vodafone release, I9100VODLSC?

If only we knew someone who could extract and .zip these items on their xda developers thread. :hmmmm:

As you're already on 4.1.2 then its highly unlikely that you would need modem+RIL. Modem only would suffice.

However I'm more than aware of the flak I will receive should I not succumb to your whim, so I am on the case...

Besides, if previous Vodafone modems are anything to go by, it won't be as good as the generic ones.

Initial reaction, indoors at my desk, is favourable. Certainly on a par with LS8.

Initially, Network Signal Info was giving the bogus -85dBm reading and I had to use... Settings > About device > Status > Signal strength... to get an accurate dBm and ASU reading. However, after a reboot and a couple of attempts with Network Signal Info, I am getting identical readings to Status > Signal strength.

Of course, there is only one real acid test for me as far as signals are concerned... the Twilight Zone pub. ;)

Speaking of teams... I guess you'll be glued to your TV tomorrow to watch the Wales vs Scotland rugby match. If you do not want to know the score... look away now!

I wish I could say your hard work paid off Hawker. But this modem is significantly worse signal compared to LS8.

Over the weekend I gave the following JB modems a thorough going over...

LS8 stock JB

LS9 stock JB

NELS1 H3G Italy/UK

BULS1 Vodafone UK

I flashed and used them in 2 different locations. At home with a good H signal and at the Twilight Zone pub with barely a signal of any description. Neither of these locations has a H+ signal.

Not only did I flash them in quick succession in each location, as signal strength may vary throughout the day, but I also left each one on for a period of time. Monitoring was done with Network Signal Info on LS8 and LS9 and on Settings > About device > Status on NELS1 and BULS1 as these latter 2 do not give accurate readings on NSI.

Long story, short... there was nothing what-so-ever between them for me. Zip, nada, nowt. In fact, if I hadn't known which modem I had flashed I wouldn't have known the difference. All worked well in both locations. This surprised me with the Vodafone BULS1 as I had given it one quick go about 2 weeks ago at the Twilight Zone pub and felt that it was not up to the job. However, on both Friday and Saturday, all worked identically.

So. at the moment, it really doesn't matter which modem you are on. The only caveat I will add to that is that I was not able to carry out the same comparisons in a H+ area.

Being ironass's modem bitch, I've also been trying out these modems last few days, and have very similar findings. Very little in it indeed.

BULS1 was hopeless for me, have not tried again

LS9 seemed to behave exactly the same as LS8

NELS1 was pretty similar, although I found call signals reliably (although not significantly) better, but data signal reliably weaker. This WAS in an H+ area.

So for me LS8 and LS9 rule the day....
 
Hi guys
Relative noob here. I have flashed a few modems, but usually revert to stock as it seems to work fine for me. HOwever, just now my gt-i9100 has been updated to 4.1.2 (stock, official, non-rooted) using Kies. Out of curiosity, I ran the app 'Getril'. This came up with the result that "Ril/Baseband doesnt match". Ril is 'I9100XXLS8 (2)', and baseband is 'I9100XXLS9'. (Hence the mismatch)

What I'm wondering is, theoretically, should I see a decent improvement if I were to match these two?
As i'm not rooted, I'd have to flash the LS8 modem to match.

I'm hesitant to go flashing things immediately after an update, I'd like to see how it goes (so far, pretty good!). Only if there's decent theoretical gain I'll go ahead.
