Latest update for google maps

hi all.... i just updated google maps and now the phone is faster on finding GPS satellites. my maps worked b4 but took along time on finding GPS sat. anyways i thought i post.

Well, the Triumph has always been a little GPS-sporadic. Are you sure Maps is doing better or it just happens to be a lucky day for you?

(Then again, there's almost always a Maps process/service running on my Triumph... maybe updating the maps is what it's doing.)

One thing I noticed on my way home from work... my map went all white several times... weird and broken. But I've noticed little quirks on several of the updates... maybe there will be another.

As for speed getting a lock..... is it from a cold start or a warm or a hot start? There are three classes of GPS fix... wikipedia it for more info.

Ill try a cold start this morning.

I updated too but couldn't tell the gps difference, one thing tho was when I got to my destination (thru navigator) the last screen was a Google street view of my destination, has it always been like this? I thought it was pretty cool - it did it automatically.

Yes, I have seen the street view at destination for at least the past three revisions. Standard stuff.

I tried a cold start where I went into GPS Status, did a reset, then downloaded the aGPS data. Then I went into maps. It had my fix within a minute. I will try again. In the past, I've had, with clear view of the sky, about a 4-6minute travel before maps found my GPS location and updated the map. It may infact be a bit better in this regard. More experimentation necessary.

BTW, I believe, aGPS should lock within approximately 30sec from a cold start.

aGPS is absolutely broken on the Triumph. It's LYING about having it. Trust me - I've traced this at the kernel RPC level. It is NOT loading the AGPS data.

tickerguy, yes, I agree with you. I tried another experiment and it was back to the 4-6minute TTFF. I have the .conf mod and also the gps libs loaded, but like you say, if the aGPS isn't being pushed down to the hardware, what is to be expected? Making the .conf mod and loading the gps libs, I do seem to have more sensitivity indoors, and often TTFF is on the order of 1.5minutes, as opposed to 4-6, but not always.

do you think a software mod is possible? I think in another place, perhaps another forum, you postulated that a SW only fix wasn't going to work.

I wonder though if the HW on the phone can be configured via SW to take the aGPS information via a firmware mod.

Somewhat unrelated, but I thought I'd share: just went to Isaac's build of MIUI last night. On stock it took 15 minutes for me to get a lock in GPS when it would lock at all - I got one of the first Triumph's out the door, which may have been to blame. On MIUI I got a lock inside 7 seconds...sitting inside my apartment. :)

Since the update I've noticed faster GPS lock, not sure if it's Maps related. I'm on stock Froyo, nothing rooted, my best time was 5 second lock, 10 satellites, 9 ft accuracy, clear night in LA. My average locks are under 30 seconds. My only related GPS app is GPS test. Jul13 phone build.

I did the same thing I posted 2 weeks ago on all things rooted it seems to work before it would take a long time or it would never work.
At least some else did the same thing. :)
