Help Launcher crashes every time i exit an app

Yeah just make make a FAT32 of whatever size you want and set it Primary. Then make the EXT of whatever size you want and set that also to Primary. You can also make a Linux Swap in Minitool if you wanted. Just like everything else set it to Primary. Then hit apply and it will partition the sd card. Once you partition it youre done. I used minitool on my 4gb sd card because CWR failed to partition it and I did not reformat or anything.

Also what are the advantages to making a swap? and if i have a 28 gig fat32 part
and a 1 gig ext part. how big would I make my swap? 32 meg?

Swap and also compcache are 2 hotly debated things. Some people think and say it makes the phone faster some say you dont need it and that it does nothing because of the way to Android OS manages its RAM. Both are memory management but like I said lot of people say it makes the phone faster but alot say it doesnt do anything because of Android's memory manager kills inactive processes to free up memory. I did a 32 swap and I cant really say it made my phone any faster.

Created a ext3 1 gig partition with minitool, but link2sd says it cannot find it.
To go back and make it fat32. try
ing that. There is no mention in the tut of making the partition the active one.
So I am assuming I should not because the first partition should be.

Try using the other options in LINK2SD.I've had it say I had a different partition than what I had, but,it still worked.
That happened, even though I used the same method of partitioning my SD CARD (CLOCKWORKMOD RECOVERY METHOD).

Haha he said COCKWORK. :D

Got link2sd working.

Noticed something I can only either move an app to sd or symbolically link it. Which saves most space? also everything already on sd looks like it would have to be moved back to phone one by one to symbolically link. looks like i just figured that out. i took go sms off sd put in on phone then linked. my phone storage went from 31.34 mb to 37.57 mb.

How much space should i have on my phone's internal storage to run optimally?

If your phone is working OK,the amount doesn't really matter. However,as a rule of thumb,I've read from previous posts here that people usually start experiencing lag,F/C,etc..,when memory falls below 20MB.

The important thing is some things are best left on the phone memory, namely MARKET,stock keyboard(or any keyboard from personal experience),stock browser,& most,if not all,GOOGLE APPS,just to be on the safe side.
Generally, leave SYSTEM APPS on the phone & user(downloaded, except MARKET) can run off the SDCard.

If you're getting these stats from the SETTINGS section on your phone, remember that this reading is not accurate as LINK2SD is fooling the phone into thinking the apps are on the phone, just like DT's A2SD.
Check the info in LINK2SD & it will give you a more accurate reading of memory & where it is stored.
TITANIUM BACKUP also reads the partition & gives an accurate readout of memory stats.

Settings thinks I have 100 mbs now. it was at 17 last I checked. Gonna check link2sd and titanium for more accurate stats. I'm assuming email and lin2sd should stay on the phone. If everything run without too many errors this may be the solution I needed.
Now it's 92.75 mb free. cause i put google maps back on phone cause of what you said.
my second partition is 25% used. I assume I can go back and resize it if it fills up. Minitool is neat that's the first windows app i've seen that can make ext3,4 partitions.
I could have use mk -fs under linux or disk management in windows. but i didn't know i was going to wind up using fat32. And i think doing it in linux would have been destructive. All in All it's a nice free tool. Also did it under a vm because this laptop only has Suse linux on it.

G-MAPS might run OK on the SDCard, but, more than likely, will run slower.
At this point, you might want to make a backup of your ROM,so as to be safe when experimenting w/what works on SD & what doesn't.
Another tip:
Any user apps that require speed/quickness to work properly/best results(games,geo-locating,to name a few),are usually best left on internal memory.
Also, when moving apps to & from internal to external & back, some do not work properly(namely keyboards),even when moved back to internal storage.
So,if you don't have your current ROM backed up @ this time,I strongly suggest doing so now, just in case things go wrong & you have to do a total wipe & start over.

What do i use for that rom manager? do i need cwm to restore to my old rom if I back it up? Almost everything I had installed was already on the sd card, all I did was move them back to phone then link them to sd. If I crash I could restore to factory correct? would i need to pick up a small sd card and put cwm on it?
If I backed up my rom and at some point wanted to go to cm7 could I do it straight from rom manager? The recovery mode volume up volume down seems very tedious. It took me hours just to get this done today. Almost everything i have on sd is an ad on app. if apps crashed i can just reinstall.I see clockwork mod Rom manager in the market. Also how long does it take to back up the rom? If it were as easy as installing rom manager and running a backup and waiting I might consider doing it.

You can use ROM MANAGER to do your back-up,it takes you to CWM & performs the back-up.
Once you've gotten more comfortable performing back-ups & restores,I'd give CWM a try.Once you become accustomed to using CWM,you'll use ROM MANAGER less & less.
Same w/using ROOT EXPLORER.The more you use this great tool, you'll stop using TITANIUM BACK-UP altogether.
ROOT EXPLORER & CWM are all you really need to manage your ROMS.IMHO,in this instance, less is more.

1. How long does it take?

2. Does Rom Manager install CWM for me?

3. Cause I need to know how long my phone will be out

I stay away from ROM Manager as far as possible, and instead do things manually the way described in the Ultimate Ascend Guide sticky. You can use the CWM downloads found in the Handy Ascend Downloads sticky. And it doesn't take long either way.

Some say it sucks never works and they hate it.

Others say it is great.

Not sure what to believe however not sure I like remebering the volume up down manual way in recovery mode either.

At a stand still as to whether to back up my rooted froyo or just leave it alone and factory restore it if something happens I can't fix.

Also rom manager seems to say it comes with clockworkmod recovery 5 for some devices.
Does it support the ascend. and will that back up my rom?

Clockworkmod recovery 5.0.2.3 for the Ascend isnt "official" meaning its the real deal its just not in Rom Manager. You can find it on PG's wiki or I posted a link to it in the "Handy Download links" post by Scur, Personally I dont use RM. Ive always had problems after flashes with it. And flashing manually is just as easy if not easier then with rom manager and I find it more effective,

Well for me knowing hardly anything about flashing, rom manager was super easy.
I just installed CWM and backed up my stock rooted customized froyo. I may even consider eventually taking the plunge to cm7. Now that my rom is backed up.
