Help launcher restarts

hi all
just moved from adw to go launcher just for a change :-)
go launcher does seem to restart a lot. ie Widgets are reloaded
when pressing home button. had this on adw but less so.

I'm guessing that desire just doesn't have enough ram
to cope with all the apps? :-(

shame they didn't give it a gig :-\

What ROM are you using? This is a common problem if you are coming from sense.

Assuming it is sense you are using, make the scene blank (so no widgets or live wallpapers etc anywhere), save it and then run the new launcher and obviously set it to default. Otherwise, sense is running in the background processing all those widgets, eating up both memory and battery :)

I have this issue too. I keep flip flopping between launchers as Sense is a little slow but doesn't reboot, and the launchers like ADW etc and a little faster but restart my phone every now and again.

Keep reading the Root threads wondering whether I should, but the problems people have with roms, and the fact im on orange, which I am guessing means I cant return the phone to stock, is keeping me on the standard rom.

:-) yeah me too. was reading about root and rom yesterday but its a big job and lots
of chance of going wrong I think.

its a shame that sense isn't just a bit better. then would be ok. but I find it to restricted.

I used to get this problem with ADW in general but especially in Sense.
I switched to Launcher Pro / Gingervillian and hardly ever have the launcher restart on me.

I suspect Sense is the biggest culprit because it's a memory hog.

ah - so you have rooted and rom'd you desire? i think that is one of the biggest improvements for romming your phone - better memory and also battery performance - so i understand anyway :)

.....im not so sure that the whole move apps to sd card makes that much difference - from what ive seen - although much is mentioned about it - but ive not really seen any improvement in mem usage

It makes a huge difference if you are running a Apps2SD+ Rom with an EXT partition on the SD card.

98MB free with 86 apps installed
 
mmm....right - so maybe only works if you have a cust rom loaded then - mine always seems to run at around 100mb free ish - no matter whether ive sd'd them or not - if i reboot, it stars off at about 130mb free - but soon gets back to the normal 100+ mb

Yeah normal apps2Sd moves some of the app to Sdcard but you still have parts of it on internal memory.
I assume as you use apps they use the cache on internal memory so memory drops a bit when in use.

Managing to keep 100mb free on a standard ROM is pretty impressive though.
