LauncherPro Beta

Unplugged phone at 6:45am est. Had 100% charge
listened to 10 minutes of scanner,
made one 3 minute phone call,
received and sent 1 text message.

Down to 84% in an hours time.

I will update throughout the day.

Are you by chance using SwitchPro, Vlingo, or the add on to Weather & Toggle Widget too?

I'm coming from helixlauncher, and I can say for certain that launcherpro is much better on battery then helix was. It seems to run the battery down faster then Sense used to, but I have a charger at work, so it's not a big issue for me. Plus the developer seems to be actively working on the program, so hopefully it will get better with time.

By the way, what is everyone using to pinpoint what programs are using the most battery? Or is just trial and error?

I love this home replacement as well, my favorite by far, coming from Helix then Zeam. I was bummed when I realized the battery drain, I've only installed a couple other apps since installing this. It seems either it's only happened since he released his update, or I didn't notice it til after that. I'm going by trial and error to determine what's going on.

12:12pm est
Battery down to 73%
Took about 4 pictures, camera up-time about 15 seconds.
Received 2 text messages.
Phone has been "asleep" other than this all morning.

Not sure what is draining battery. Nothing obvious in running services. I do not have an app
killer.
I am not using any weather widgets, vlingo or switchpro, although I do have homeswitcher installed.
On a side note, my wake time over 61%.
Up time = 36:2850
Awake time = 22:40:50

Not sure what is keeping it from sleeping

I have HomeSwitcher also, but i've had it with Zeam too and I think Helix with no noticable battery drain on them

One thing I think is going on is my scanner app is not turning off completely. I will uninstall that and see what effect that has.

I think the battery life with 2.1 is very sporadic. I'm not sure if it's a particular launcher or app. I went back to Sense yesterday with no problems. Today, I lost 15% in the first two hours. All I did was send/receive 4 texts. The phone was in sleep the rest of the time.

Most of the inconsistent problems for me have started after 2.1.

edit: Spare Parts always tells me that Android System is using the most battery and there's nothing out of the ordinary in Running Services.

This has happened to me a couple of times - SpareParts told me that Android System was keeping my phone partially awake almost consistently. A restart seemed to fix the issue.

Well I had uninstalled SwitchPro, LauncherPro and went back to Zeam as well as uninstalling Vlingo. I was still having a battery drain, so I uninstalled the add on forecast widget to weather and toggle widgets and actually a wallpaper that I installed within the last few days. Battery seemed to stabalize a little so I installed launcherPro again, as well as switchpro. Then I unistalled Zeam and Helix, in the last 2 hours I've only lost 12% battery with moderate use. Seems a little better, in my opinion it seems it was either the weather and toggle widget add on or the Droid wallpaper I dowloaded from the internet. Strange but it seems better so far, I'm going to put a full charge on tonight and see where we're at in the morining. If it's still draining I'll post, if not then I apparently fixed MY problem anyway.

My suggestion is look at everything that could possibly be causing the drain, what have you installed since LauncherPro?

I had the same weird battery drain issue when i first tried launcherpro out. I don't know if it was just dumb luck or it actually did something but I set sense to "blank slate" scene got rid of other home apps so there were no apps or widgets open. Let my battery drain all the way and fully charged (had been a while since i had run it down). I was charging my phone by 5 pm at the latest most days with moderate use, after doing this I plug it in in the morning while I listen to rhapsody on it at work maybe 2 - 4 hours and am 55-75% battery when I get up the next morning. I havent gone back to sense since doing this and again it may just be dumb luck but give it a shot****** just make sure you save your sense scene before you set blank slate!!****

*****Final Update******

Well, took my phone off the charger about 11pm last night with 100% charge. When I got up this morning at 530 it was at 66%, so I lost a little over 5% an hour for the 6.5 hours I slept (5.23% to be exact). A little more than before but I can live with it for now.

Someone else on launcherpro.com left a comment having similar issues as me, while running v0.1.2 of launcherpro his battery drain was 2% an hour and after the update to v0.2.0 it went to 6%. I experienced the same, battery drain went up with the new release.

Bottom line........I love this home replacement!!!! I will keep it, plug in when needed, and hope the developer fixes this. He listens to the comments, already has made changes based on them, one being a change to customize the bottom dock.

Hope this helps some people out that are experiencing battery drain with this.

In my opinion, 6% an hour is not acceptable. Losing 72% of your battery in a 12 hour day, without using your phone, is definitely not feasible for me.

Seriously? The Eris has NEVER had good battery life. Can't ask much out of the 1300mah battery. If it makes you feel better, I have turned off wifi since my post and have only lost 2%-3% an hour.....

i love this home replacement but as you've all already said it eats battery horribly. Mine isn't as severe as all of the above ones, but normally my battery is never even yellow, but since installing launchpro my battery dies almost everyday now. Love this, but gonna uninstall until it is fixed.

I think that by far this is the best home replacement. It is snappy and fast. I use it with beautiful widgets and all I use is 3 screens.
As far as the battery life I use Spare Parts and I just put my phone to sleep when I hit END. My phone last a lot longer.

Okay, for some reason, when I turned my wifi off I have had EXCELLENT battery life!!! I have not had my wifi turned off since I got the phone and never had a problem until I got the update for this launcher though, but turning it off has given me back my battery life. Just wanted to pass along my findings

I've been using Launcher Pro Beta since last night and all day today.

The landscape to portrait slowness is the only (minor) annoyance I've seen so far (it's fast going from portrait to landscape, but slow going back).

No issue at all with the battery life.

Between this and Weather Bug Elite, I've finally found two things to replace default apps with the Eris that I just may stay with.

One thought: this LP is a beta.. I'm hoping they do not mess with it too much developing it out of beta. ;)

what widgets do you use for airplane, wifi, etc.?

Are you still on 1.5? When I try to use my Spare Parts for the home key, whatever I choose, disables my red end/power button.

I had my battery drain really fast. I was switching back and forth between sense and launcherpro a lot. I charged my phone to full, rebooted it and set to run launcherpro. That was at 12:30pm, it is 9 hours later and I am still at 90% charge. Granted I have not used my phone at all. Seems that when I disable sense and run launcherpro as the default, the battery issues go away. If I run both then I see massive battery drain.

Could the increased battery drain perchance be tied to how many screens you're using? I'm only using three screens and they aren't even full, and my battery is fine.

is there any way to make dialerone the default phone app for launcherpro or is that something that will be fixed when we can customize the launcher bar?

+1 ..

.. although the LP app offers 7 screens.

Things should work up to standards with what the app (or the OS, for that matter) has to offer in that phone.
