Is the LCD screen really scratch resistant?

well i havent really tried scratching my own phone but im pretty confident it'll survive day to day usage, and i definitely think a screen protector is unnecessary, unless u work in conditions that require extra protection. i used an ipod touch for 3 years, and the screen never had a scratch, and i wasnt exactly careful with it (the back had loads of scratches)
im expecting the same from my SGS2's gorilla glass

any other evidence or anecdotes about the SG SII screen and scratch resistance / tolerance?
i currently have a screen protector on mine but i'm thinking of removing it to enjoy the screen fully

i didn't know it was gorilla glass. what are the claims of this glass
(is this what they use on ipads?)

GG is scratch-resistant but not scratch-proof; you'll find plenty of posts on AF from users who have found that out.
